Yes because in this country we see troops killing people - passenger planes shot down - whole regions taken over by rebels funded and armed by another country

Yes it's exactly like this country.

Look, read and understand, my point is not about looking at an atlas...Are you serious???...It was initially about Hammonds throw away comments, and possible repercussions..Just stop trying to make the thread into something it is not...By the way, What is the capital of Bongo Bongo, being as you are so up on Geography..:D

Not making it about anything

You made a statement about Ukraine not being part of Europe when it is - simple as that

And Bongo Bongo is a derogatory comment so won't have a capital

Would it not be better if the folks in the disputed territory had a vote to decide whether they wanted to be part of the Ukraine or brought back into the Russian fold?

Yes Ukraine is part of Continental Europe, but not in the EU, not in NATO or EEC, they want to be and that's the issue, it would put all the above on the Russian Border and have Russia with NATO in 3 areas, if Ukraine moves towards the west other Countries may follow.

They did that, unilaterally, in Crimea. They (the rebels) want something like that in Donbass. Understandably, the government in Kiev is rather reluctant to accede!

I think any referendum would have a different outcome to the 18th September one held in Scotland!

Yep and Russia most certainly don't want Ukraine going that way - can only see it getting worse

As do I.

I'm no expert, but I'd say they view themselves as more Russian than Western European (as that's the direction the democratically elected? Leaders in Kiev want to go).

Bloody shame, it's always those with nowt that seem to suffer most in these situations. Tragic.

Yep and Russia most certainly don't want Ukraine going that way - hence why now Putin is acting like a tyrant to try and get Ukrainr back under Russian control
Acting like a Tyrant or protecting itself from NATO's advance? let's be honest if he wanted he could simply take it, don't forget what he did in Georgia.

Absolutely true.

And a shame that a serious thread about the situation is marred by some obscenely petty point-scoring!
