Peter Crouch...

Most probably the best strike of his career...

Very hard working player... I would always pick him for England as the overseas defenders don't always know how to play against him...

Think he's actually got better at Stoke...

One of the best goals I've seen. The control, the volley from that angle and distance and he beat probably the best keeper in the league.

Goal of the season by an absolute mile.

Great goal but poor player:)

Yep. If he was a great player then he wouldn't have had so many clubs. Always has a couple of good seasons and then every club he's been at then ships him on somewhere else, which is a good barometer IMO as to how good a player actually is.

He was a good squad player at Liverpool. Could go a good job when called upon but never quite good enough as first choice on a regular basis.

He should've accepted his role and stayed at a big club. Crouch and Liverpool would've been better for it.

Very good goal, but rather lucky. There've been plenty of better shots that have missed imo.

Very good player for his size; Stoke seem 'happy' to collect a few oddballs that confuse other teams - and all power to them for it!

That's not true! If they were better they'd have gone in.

No luck at all about that goal. Crouch controlled it and hit the exact shot he wanted. Rooney's wonder goal last season could be viewed as lucky, as it came off his shin, which isn't what he intended.

the problem, or at least the one while he was at spurs was that he needed a good 4/5 chances to get one converted.

But at least he was creating those 4/5 chances where players like Balotelli, Torres and Carroll don't seem to be able to create as many opportunities per game. Even if you aren't scoring, if you are trying and in a golascoring position it may just set someone else up.

I'm not the biggest Crouch fan but if you look at his goalscoring record for England it does stack up reasonably well and there could be an argument for putting him on a plane in the summer as an out and out target man, the old fashioned English way

Robin Friday scored a similar but even better one for Reading in the 70's against Tranmere. Clive Thomas, the match referee, said it was the greatest goal he had ever seen. I had the privilige of being at the game, and it still sends shivers down my spine when I recall it. There is a good book about Friday by Paul McGuigan, the bass player from Oasis, called 'The greatest footballer you never saw'. Well worth a read for any football fan.

My uncle saw Robin play once and said he was definitely Englands answer to George Best only even more wayward than him;) A real character to boot as well. Stan Bowles was asked about Robin once and said you think I am a good player but he makes me look Crap. Tragic really he never showcased his talents and died in poverty due to Drink problems amongst others.

I think crouch is a had working player , but he belongs in a team that are going to use long ball , target man game tactics , stokes play suits him, he also has a decent touch for a big lad ..

Unfortunately 'an out an out target man, the old fashioned English way' is not good enough for international football anymore. England have been going down that route since about 1971 onwards and it hasn't gotten us anywhere.

To be fair we haven't played well in World Cups since 70 apart from Italia 90 and that needed a lucky win against Cameroon. Long ball may be the way forward.

Long ball tactics will get us nowhere, you need more than that these days at International level any decent centre backs will gobble that tactic up. As for Crouch I just cant see him as a starter if you want somebody to throw on for the final 10 mins to cause a bit of comical mayhem in the penalty area then yes but first choice for England not a chance.
