People who don't repair their pitch marks - what's that all about???

Indeed! But I wouldn't dream that anyone here would be a culprit - no way....you all obviously love this game and have true respect for the course, I knew that the moment I started reading these pages.

I loved reading through your responses, and sorry this was an old chestnut to drag up. It just just confounded me how players good enough to leave a mark just ignored their 'handiwork'.

Oh, and I also seem get a bit of good karma out of it too (no, my name isn't Earl!). What I mean is, when I've repaired a stack of pitch marks, I seem to (a good few times) sink the long put on that green!

I'm gonna stick my neck out here and say that I'm absolutely positive that I've left a green without repairing my pitchmark. Not intentionally, just that I've either not been able to find it or the ball is a long way from where it pitched and I never saw the first bounce.

I haven't been at a course where this is some kind if huge problem as many are making out. There is the odd few and I just repair them without any thought of making an issue about it......perhaps they were in the same boat as me and never saw the 1st pitch etc.

If a mark is on my line then if gets treated the same as a poorly repaired one anyway, so what's the difference?? I'd rather be safe in the knowledge that it was repaired properly (well, to my satisfaction anyway, as believing that your way is the only is a bit conceited too!) rather than what I see as a raggedy old effort!

As someone else remarked, when these threads come up... The forum is without slow players or anyone with questionable etiquette. Which, in my opinion, is questionable also.

I don't think any of us are claiming to be saints. I agree, occasionally we just can't find our pitch mark, or even one to repair in leiu (as it were).

Sadly, we're not all lucky enough to play courses where this 'isn't some kind of huge problem'. Over this (prolonged!) wet period, I've seen some ball-made craters that I could sink puts into, so obviously it's 'better players' who are landing their shots from high in the sky. And if they couldn't find craters of this size, they need braille markings on their clubs, not numbers.

I'm fairly new to the game and just wanted to sound out/get advice from a few that have been playing a lot longer, that's all.
