Saturday was a reduced field comp due to Lytham club day....

So the Pro put on a stableford singles comp for those of us who wanted to fight the traffic. Playing off my new HC of 19...

I left the slightly damaged driver in the car and went with 3 wood off the tee.. (awaiting delivery of the jetspeed)

Started steady 5 over after 5. Then hit the green on the long par 3 6th, and only went and holed the 15 footer for birdie.
The next hole I had a 9 iron left after a good tee shot and hit a perfect shot which rolled in and out of the hole to leave me with a 5 footer for birdie number 2....

I ended the front 9, 4 over gross, with 24 points...

Played the back 9 steady and slightly over par to come in with 41 points and a gross 85....... And that was without a driver!!!!

Handed the card in to find 3 people had already carded 42 points so no win.... And then found out that it doesn't count for HC either.

Still really pleased with the rapid progression over the last few weeks, long may it continue...

Roll on Thursdays midweek medal...

well played, goes to show you do not need to use your driver to put in a good score (my brother does not even have one). Must say though bit tight you did not get a HC cut on the score you finished on. Hopefully you can repeat this on Thursday :)

Played in a team comp on Saturday with 3/4 handicap, I worked out if it would have been a regular singles comp on full allowance I'd have got 39 points and another small cut.
Oh well.

What reason for it not being a qualifier?

I'm not actually sure... I didn't enquire, it was one of my regular PP,s who mentioned it later in the bar as I was expecting another cut which is what I really want. To get down to 18 at this stage would be a massive bonus for me....

This is where golf clubs don't really help themselves regarding "banditry" really. It is obvious you can play better than your handicap and by shooting 41 points, that means you're around 5 shots better (depending on CSS), so why shouldn't you get a cut. I'm sure you'd be happy with one. I can perhaps understand no increase, but reduction only would work here wouldn't it? Next time you go out and shoot 41 points to win the comp and people are moaning your handicap is inaccurate, but what can you do?!

Im guessing its not a qualifier due to the pro just putting on a friendly comp as opposed to the club doing it ?

Could you not put the card in as a supplementary?

Only if you declare it a supp card and you get the card checked and signed by the pro, both your parents, grandparents and great grandparents before you begin the round.

It's easier to get blood out of a stone than it is to get a handicap chop, especially at your club if you shoot 41pts and come 4th

Does your club you hdid for it's results and was it entered. You may find that although a non qualifier it may register against ESR ... And build towards a cut in the not to distant future

Readin what he says it appears it was just a friendly comp quickly organised by the pro -

So would certianly be interesting to see if a card was entered because the pro would have had to set up the comp on the PC then also make sure it was a non qualifier

What's the difference between a Monthly Medal and an impromptu competition played over the same course?
If this Comp was played as a Comp over a measured course it should count towards handicap...
I'm with Bob!

Firstly, for all our club comps we enter our scores post round in HDID. We then get notification of result and HC change.
With this one we just handed the cards in to the pro shop and it has not appeared on HDID.

I presume results etc will be just pinned on the board in the club, I will have a look on Thursday....

So it wasn't an official club comp then it appears

But if it had been an "official" club comp wouldn't it have been played over the same course in the same conditions..?
If so - make it a qualifier...

Because it hasn't been set up previously by the comps committee allowing everyone to enter etc

It appears it was just an impromptu comp set up by the pro for the fee people that got to the course.

I'm guessing it wouldn't have been in the diary etc nor set up properly and guessing the pro won't have the authority to deem it a qualifier
