The protection is under law, credit cards cant not choose to restrict it. However one thing to remember is that it is only relevant when you contract direct (so for instance paypal, via a credit company or 3rd party will mean you could not claim, from my understanding but its not my specialist area).
I generally pay for everything on credit card, for this protection and is very useful when a company goes bust, as I once found out.
Whether if the club is a members club or if they go bust part the way thought the year, I would have thought it cause issues but wouldn't bee surprised if you can claim, pass never had that situation and hopefully will never need it found out the answer, but if paying on credit card doesn't cost anything, why not do it.:thup:
