paul lawrie tale

There was another story about Paul going about recently.

He was practicing at his range and had his back to one of the paying public who had turned up to use the range. He was then heard, to complain loudly about the state of the place and said I bet Paul doesn't practice here.

At that Paul took his bunnet off and walked to the gentleman and asked if there was anything he could help with, exit one embaressed golfer.

This incident took place at my local range I believe - Strathclyde Park Golf Centre. Local pros have been having a little chortle about it.

In the 90s my wife was on the social committee at Alford Golf Club when we had a speed golf event (where you have loads of people out on the course in a bid to get the ball as quick as possible) in aid of Children in Need - Paul had just won his first European Tour title and she phoned his agent to ask if he might be available to hit the first tee shot and putt at the last.

His agent said "What's the fee" and when HID explained there wasn't one said "I'll ask, but I'm not sure he'll be able to"

Paul got in touch a couple of days later and said he'd be delighted to do it if it fitted into his schedule - and then shifted a commitment so he could take part.

On the evening of the event he drove at the first and fifth and putted at the last - both his drives landing right at the feet of the person waiting to play next shot - and then spent most of the evening at the social event which followed, signing balls for kids etc.- top, top guy

good story and nice to hear

When I was caddying on The Seniors Tour at a venue called Stoke By Nayland I was in the pro shop looking at the gear when another customer in their asked me if these (Cleveland Wedges) were any good, sorry I responed i'm a Titleist Vokey guy to which he smiled. As i'm brousing the shop I suddenly realise I had been talking to he who holed the monster putt to get in the 95 Open playoff with JD one Constantine Rocca.I left the pro shop and went to the toilet and Sam Torrance was in there..it was pretty surreal :D .None golfer related but when I worked at AG I was serving a very nice chap who I asked what he did for a living, he replied very modestly I play a bit of football, I said semi pro?
He said no full time, I said oh who do you play for, he said Norwich City.I found out from one of the lads later I was talking to Zack Whitbread a premier league gootballer :p.Then a few months later the same thing happened with England player Dean Ashton

An old professional friend was in the sitting down position at his clubs loo when two members he considered to be friends came in to use the standing position.
They then spent 5 minutes totally slagging him off. He thought it best to remain seated.

[not me honest]
