When taking a drop from a water hazard ,If my 2cl puts me on a path can I drop on the path then take relief from the path. Or can I do it in 1 step? I.e penalty drop plus free drop combined?
You must take the penalty drop first, then if appropriate take a further drop from the immoveable obstruction. When taking a drop from a water hazard ,If my 2cl puts me on a path can I drop on the path then take relief from the path. The simple reason behind DB7 comment is that until the ball comes to rest on the path ( if it comes to rest on the path) you do not know where your nearest point of relief is and therefore which side of the path you will drop. When taking a drop from a water hazard ,If my 2cl puts me on a path can I drop on the path then take relief from the path. That's what I thought , pp seemed to think I could combine the 2.The simple reason behind DB7 comment is that until the ball comes to rest on the path ( if it comes to rest on the path) you do not know where your nearest point of relief is and therefore which side of the path you will drop.
They may well have been confused by Clarification 16.1/3That's what I thought , pp seemed to think I could combine the 2.
Yes I shouldve done exactly that.Relief is one rule at a time. The alert player may be able to use this very strategically to get a better outcome and leave others gobsmacked - "didn't know you can do that".
A mythical beast.What’s a water hazard?![]()
I doubt such people have ever read the Rule book, let alone the ClarificationsThey may well have been confused by Clarification 16.1/3

which only relates two Abnormal Course Conditions not a Penalty Area.
Wasn't there a recent televised incident where a player took 'onestep' relief ?I doubt such people have ever read the Rule book, let alone the Clarifications
It is more likely they simply felt it seems wrong to drop on something you need to take relief of, and thus felt it makes sense to do it i one go.
Without wanting to be too pernickity, but this is a Rules forum, 16.1/3 also covers other conditions, not just abnormal course conditions. One of the examples therein relates to an embedded ball. They may well have been confused by Clarification 16.1/3

Yes. The Rule (and Clarification) heading specify the relevant conditions.Without wanting to be too pernickity, but this is a Rules forum, 16.1/3 also covers other conditions, not just abnormal course conditions. One of the examples therein relates to an embedded ball.
