Par

Depends on the hole really. I'd say on a normal par 4 hole my tactic would me

Shot 1. Whallop a driver
2. Smooth a short iron to the middle of the green
3. Leave the putt just outside the hole, 2 inches by.
4. Hole the gimme! :D

Don't always be aggressive.
On a shorter par 4 I find its easier to have a full 9iron or wedge into the green rather than a 60 yard pitch.
The 6th at my place is only about 320 yards. Can't reach it, its slightly uphill. I use my 3h rescue and leave a fullish wedge in.

All too boring. Whallop a driver OB, top your 3-off-the-tee into the rough and hole a recovery wood from 220 yards. Don't tell me that's not fun golf!

Pull a drive over to the next fairway and pitch a 9 iron over 50 foot trees to the fringe and then chip on and watch the ball lip out and tap in for a par :)

I never take more club (off the tee) than necessary, unless the fairway is wide there are no trees on the right at 225-250.

On medium holes, it's a 3 wood for me.
On short holes, I might even drop down to 5 wood or 3 iron/hybrid, I even take a 4 iron off two tees.

The holes I par the most (and birdie too) are the ones where I can leave about 100 yards in.

It depends. Hit the tee shot and then decide from there. If its on the short stuff and a medium par 4 I'll be looking to try and get it into birdie country. If its a long par 4 or a par 5 and dependant onthe type of game, my score and the conditions I'll try and go for the green or lay up as well as possible.

If its in the rough or worse then its about assessing your options and damage limitation. Take a drop if necessary but make sure you don't turn a 6 into a 8 or worse.

don`t think to much about the next shot just the one i am taking but allways driver off the tee

Well, you are either a madman or a ******* amazing golfer.....or you play somewhere that doesn't punish you enough.

just had an on-course assessemnt from my new pro. according to his assessment my best bet is to leave more than 100 for the approach as I'm likely to end up closer to the pin in fewer shots.

I'm the same but the way I see it is that I should get closer to the pin the closer I am so I'll keep smacking it as far as I can to give myself more practice at the closer ones.

A couple of weeks ago I counted 7 times I had an approach from between 40 and 80 yards. I didn't get it close once and missed the green altogether twice (thinned).

my lessons, starting after our meeting at GB's, will concentrate on ' the 100 yards and in'.

Dave must have seen something in the way I played as he said we could reverse my handicap  (eventually)

Its about finding a distance you are comfy with. I love my pitching wedge (95-10 yards) and my 52 wedge (85-75 yards) and so happy to really leave anything from 100 down to 75 and feel I have a chance of hitting to 10-12 feet regularly if not closer. Some may love their 8 or 9 irons so its about leaving 130-120 (being generalistic here!!!!). Whatever, find the optimum distance and then really work on controlling the distance and the spin
