I'm sure Kyle Berkshire would still get on in 2 (the par 6 anyway). Saw one youtube video of him getting to a 650 yard par 5 in 2 using 2 iron 2iron, in wet conditions.

The 18th at Hillsborough GC near Sheffield measures 630 yards off the whites and a shade under 590 off the yellows, and is a par 5. Sounds monstrous, but it is downhill most of the way. When I played with a member many years ago, to prove it didn’t play as long as it sounds, he went 8 iron, 8 iron, 8 iron and got home comfortably.

I have no interest in playing a hole that requires me to hit a drive and then three well struck fairway woods to reach. What's the point? Would be more like being at the driving range than playing golf.

Going back in time, Woosnam reached a long par 5 with two 1 irons at Wentworth. Lyle was also a big hitter with a 1 iron - 360 yards.

If it's a fair question, what clubs today might get you extra distance?
Asking this because all my equipment is dated.

Anything up to 750 yards should be a regular par 5 for fit players with today's equipment.

I'm sorry, I can't agree with that.
Driver 270, 3 wood 230, 3 wood 230 and I'm still 20yds short. And that's flat and no wind.
Some may do it occasionally but all fit players?

One thinks Crow's tongue is firmly in his cheek bearing in mind the creep in lofts and the extra yards promised by OEMs every year..

There is a 712 yard par 5 at Styrrup Hall and to be honest I just find it boring. It's a talking point I guess but I find these longer holes tend to lack character

Gedney Hill Golf Club (South Lincolnshire) is only 5287 yards. It has 7 par 4's under 300 yards (4 of which are not more than 240 yards). Yet it has a par 5 that is 668 yards, uphill and I believe into the prevailing wind (and the fairways don't seem to get much roll exactly, quite long when I played). It just seems bizarre, and it is a slog of a hole.

The 644 yard par 5 at Hever GC is more than long enough for me. Not downhill either.
Average golfer (including me!) will struggle to reach that in 3, so it's a bit of a joke of a hole. Golf's hard enough!

Back in the day were all long par fives reachable in three by all fit players?
Drive 200, 3 wood 180, 3 wood 180 = 560 yards

Maybe. But then back in the day, they'd still be a sand wedge from the green of the 17th at Hever.
