Just joined a padel club ten minutes from my house. Opened today, seven courts. Really good game for an old ex tennis player:). Played a bit in Spain, outdoor court so my first game indoors.

Anyone play ?

I’ve not played it,but a young en at work is obsessed with it.
Says the place he plays at must be making a killing,as it’s always booked up.

Years ago when in the RAF we used to play it inside the gym as well as soft tennis - was good fun

Be careful of the knees 😁

Game invented in Mexico, top players from Spain, so no accent on the E.;)

Really good game that requires tactical play rather than power. Slice rather than topspin. Underarm serves. Tennis players take long swings, whereas padel players take short ones. More of a cross between tennis and table tennis shots. Mate had his first game today, and is a decent squash player. He struggled just as much as everyone when they first play with playing off the walls.

Not cheap in the UK though. Membership £200 annually and £32 for a court for an hour. In Spain it is half the cost though most courts are outdoor, so in the summer it is too hot to play for a lot of the day.

I've played a little in Spain - visiting a mate who was working in Madrid.
It's fine. I'm not sure how it works in the UK, but in Spain everyone plays doubles. Maybe they're just very sociable.
I can see the attraction - like pickleball, it's tennis for choppers (I very much count myself in this category). Tennis has a really high skill bar to crawl over to have an enjoyable game.

Padel is a doubles game. You can play singles on a much smaller court, but think there is only a couple of courts in the UK.

Definitely an easier game than tennis, but the top players are very skilful. Pro tennis players will get beaten by Pro padel players, especially as tennis players hardly play from the net which is a must in padel.

Aaah... sounds like my sort of game as tennis, particularly grass, was my Summer sport for many, many years. Must give it a go as there's several courts opened very near by. Hmmmm.

Popular here. Folk I know that play rave about it but I've never tried it
It'd mean time away from the golf course so I'll give it a miss

It’s massive here in leafy Cheshire. Courts springing up all over the place. I’ve got glass knees so haven’t played but I do wonder if the bubble will burst or if it’ll go from strength to strength.

There is a Golf Club near(ish) me called "South Essex Golf Club" It used to be owned by crown golf, Its recently re-invented itself as The Heron Country Club, It now has 3 Padel courts that are busy all the time, and its expensive, Peak time court hire for a visitor is £58 for 90 minutes!
