Looking for recommendations ladies and gents.

Am am playing with the society next weekend at Heythrop park. Shall be heading up early in the thrsday to meet sis at uni for a pint in the evening. But looking for a round beforehand. Considered scouting Heythrop but 4 rounds on one course in four days is a bit of a waste of the travel imo.

Any my course that serves decent grub after would be an added bonus.
 
Unfortunately I can't play Thursday as I'm in Birmingham for a meeting, otherwise I would have joined you.

Round the city itself, I would say either North Oxford GC or Oxford GC (Southfields). I play North Oxford quite a bit as my father-in-law is a member, it's short (par 67) but quite tight and good greens. Southfields I've never played, despite living here all my life, but people always tell me what great condition it's in. Outside the city, certainly avoid Waterstock and Hinksey Heights. You could also try my old place, Drayton Park - tight, lots of water, it's a decent test. None of those will cost a great deal. Or, if you want to step up a notch Frilford Heath is more expensive but is probably the best club close to Oxford, it hosts European Tour qualifying school.
 
How far you wish to travel and spend will come into it.

Not much to add from above. Studley Wood is a little further north.

My gaff (Carswell) on west has a silly cheap visitors fee on Thursdays.

Unfortunately I will be in Salford.

Thanks guys. I shall have a little look at them online this afternoon. I'm staying in Banbury, so distance wise. Anywhere enrolee from the m25 up to Banbury is my range of travel. Cost wise, guess that depends on the quality of the course. But realistically £100 would probably be the limit its just gonna be me.
 
Tadmarten Heath is a cracking little course - gentle front 9 and then a very tough back
 
Tadmarton is lovely, traditional old heathland course, and the food is excellent and usually lots of homemade pies and cakes etc and definitely likely to be the most convenient if youre staying in Banbury. Alternatively you could stop off at Studley Wood en route as you head up the M40. Cracking track and food always used to be decent but a few years since ive eaten more than a bacon roll there! Just round the corner from Studley is Magnolia Park which was much improved when I played there last time (though I wouldnt play ahead of either of the other 2)
 
If your budget will stretch to it, you can't go wrong with playing either the red course or blue course at frilford. Its great there. I used to be a member at Frilford and now am a member at Oxford Golf Club (southfields). I would recommend this course over North Oxford, I have played a lot at both and the greens are much better and the course is more interesting at Southfields.
 
Burford is a good shout


Have to say Studley wood looked very tired and a mess when we played it this year

Have to say Frilford looks superb. Have a few others from society travelling now and after the vote, tadmarten has the win.

But having looked at Frilford quite a few times I may still try and twist their arms......
 
Tadmarton is a nice course but does tend to get busy on a Thursday, burford was in great condition when I played in an open a few weeks ago, very quick greens.
If you are stuck I'm based in Banbury and although I'm working Thursday hubby has said he could sign you in to our course Feldon Valley Thursday pm, just up the road from tadmarton,
You could try the Cotswold ( use to be chipping norton, it's ok and a stones throw from heythrop.
The Wychwood is a nice course with good food, the other option is the Oxfordshire which I believe have some offers on at the moment. Henley is also a nice course.
