So it has come to pass that I will not be receiving my 15 year service award from BSkyB Ltd in April of this year.
I have decided to hang up my Sky pass and head off for pastures new.

Bloody hellfire what am I doing :D...

Still, kept my run of getting every job I interview for going!!!

Anyone else left a company after a long time with them?

No, but I have a blemish free record of never having an interview for any job I've got! :)

Have you just decided to look, or have you already got something?

My Mrs had 21 years at 1 company and was made redundant and now works for a small firm, biggest issue she had was having a big company mentality working for a small company, lots of adjustment.

Best of luck mate.

I have been offered the new role with a significant increase in a company more worldwide than Sky. So hopefully the transition should be easy (well considering I work in the change environment I would hope so!) :D

Cheers Martin. Will be weird that first day of heading West and not East!

West is best mate ;)

Where in the west (or more west I should say), your call if you want to say to who though.

Have been considering it for the last few months mate. I've been with the same company for 19 years and have done well there, but the whole industry is in decline and the work no longer interests me. Unfortunately, any change is going to mean starting near the bottom again as my skills are quite specialized. The next time redundancies are made, I think I'm going to put myself at the front of the queue and find something more interesting to do....

7 years is my longest which was a massive culture shock... left the army for civvy street!

I have worked for large and small companies, big is best imho as theres more places to hide ;)

My skills in Lean 6Sigma are quite specialzed too, but it's for that I have moved so fortunate that I am actually going in as more experienced than others.

Martin, it's in Glasgow city centre.

Excellent, Congratulations Greig! my neck of the woods, maybe in the summer months (if it comes) I can get you over to my club for an early evening game?
Good luck in the new role:thup:

I started a business 22 years ago with a mate and we are now starting the last death throes to what I hope will be semi retirement. I did 12 years before that in a similar business and 9 before that in the same industry. So that's 43 years doing plant and tool hire and 2 years away from it, all from leaving school at 15!

Good luck in the new one Greig!!

14yrs with BT, followed by 6yrs in medical electronics in the local hospital and just a few weeks away from 15yrs with a German Medical eqpt company.

Only 12yrs till retirement...

Cheers all. Its daunting but very exciting to be getting this chance to work for a company even bigger than Sky.

can you say who? just curious who is bigger than Sky and in Glasgow city centre, no worries if you'd rather not post on a public forum (which I'd fully understand)

Well done Greig; good luck with the new job.

I've been 12 years in my job... Although we've been taken over twice in that time so it's like 3 different employers. I'm well overdue to leave... If only I could find the right opportunity.

Most I've ever managed is 3 years on one place. Mind you I did years of seasonal work which makes poor reading on my CV as most big companies don't understand the principle of working for 8 months of the year 7 days a week up to 15 hours a day and then having 4 months off! I've never worked for a large company and I'm not likely to either as there aren't many in Cornwall.
As for your new adventure good luck and enjoy the change of scenery and faces.
