After dislocating my knee i had to have an op on it to take a broken bit of cartilage out, and i'm on crutches and have been told that i wont be back up going again properly for 3-5 months, and its 2 weeks on and im getting bored already, the weathers getting better.
have decided once i am off the crutches for a couple of weeks i am going to go and practice putting and maybe chipping, so have you guys got any tips for me that i could use to improve my putting and chipping whilst i can't play properly.
cheers guys

First of all i wouldnt keep thinking you will be out for 5months, try to stay positive and think that you will be out for 3months :D
When you are on the crutches i would recommend you read lots of golf books such as bob rotella's books
then once you are off the crutches put so much practice into putting and soon you will be better than ever! :D

hi,
Gutted for you mate.. I deffo agree with you about putting though.A guy i work with plays off 2 and he told me if i want to get down to single figures really quickly (he also said i know you wont do it) then, next time you got to the club just take ur putter and ur wedge and just chip around the green and putt.He told me to do this for 3 months solid then after 3 months start taking my clubs up again and playing as normal and see what happens.

It might be to your advantage that your knee is crook.
Don't they say you should keep your legs quiet (still) when putting and just pivot. Also little chip shots from around the fringe too.

Your gonna be the short game master by the end of the summer!!

Hope the recovery goes well :)

will try to think its 3 months but physio told me they have to stop me from being knock-kneed which could take a bit longer. can you recommend a book that i could take a look at?

As all the guys said just keep chipping and putting mate, probably will end up a lot better as thats the so called boring drills that we dont spend time on but make up most of the game, good luck.

having had several operations on knee area PLEASE listen to the medical experts FIRST. then worry about golf, i tried to rush back to work (plumber) always on my knees and fXXXXXXD them again, i didnt listen thought i knew best. on the plus side you and Beckham have something in common. will be watching world cup on the telly.

Gutted mate, but like Bigslice says, dont rush back. I reckon it'll be very tough though. I had a real bad shin fracture 6 years ago, was told 6 month minimum, but after 3 I was trying to play football again, 4 ops later I am just glad I can get round the golf course ok.

and the rest a week later :D
couldnt resist :o

d1217 buy one good golf instruction book, im sure someone on here can put you in the right direction. watch golf on sky. tigers return he has bigger problems than you (although i would swap). just be positive and do the exercises

Not good news and you have my sympathy. Mind you given the summers we've had recently you might have the last laugh being in thedry as we toil in yet another summer downpour. Don't rush back and make sure you can get fit either for the end of the season or so you can work on your swing in the winter and come back better than ever next year

thanks for your replies guys think i am going to delve into a nice golfing book and then do what homer did and get a putting aid and just practice putting and chipping.
Homer, can you use that putting aid for chipping?
was just wondering as it might help nipping the ball off the top.

ok cheers will have to get a path finder when i get off the crutches.
can anyone tell which one of the bob rotella books would be the best to start with, looking at the your 15th club as the first one to read but i can get that and the golfers mind and putting out of your mind for £18 off amazon

Putting out of your Mind as that's your first port of call. Golfers Mind is like an abridged version of not a game of perfect and game of confidence so read that next. Not read 15th club yet but it's next on the list. Hope the knee heels soon but don't rush back, it'll be worse in the long run. Best wishes.

I thought I had it bad and I'm only out for up to 6 weeks.

As mine is kidney related though I'm still able to practice putting and chipping, otherwise I'd have no hair left.

The missus bought me Phil Mickelsons Secret of the Short Game for Xmas, and that is a good book, and written my the maestro himself.
