Opens 2017

like wise.

tend to play an open at Nairn Dunbar, one a Moray old, the Fraser Gardener at Royal Dornoch and the last open at Tain.

might do the open at Trump Aberdeen if its still on, sort of lost interest in opens the last few years, was a time when i played about 20 opens.

I might take a trip up to the RD open this year. I'll see what it clashes with.

they have a few Martin, last one in Sept is on both courses, The Fraser Gardner, both courses. high handicaps play the Championship first then the struie. the last few years Ive played the Struie well first off the fallen away on the championship in the afternoon. Hope to get my handicap up so i can play the Champ first;)

Sauntons Easter Cup is always on Easter Monday. For £50 and 18 on each course I'm not sure you'll get better value in England. You can also enter the Royal Norh Devon open on the Sunday to make a weekend of it.

£50 for a full days golf at Saunton, wow, that's the kind of crazy deal I'm looking for. Think I paid about £50 for each course the other summer.

In Wales, I play Neath, 36 holes for £22 and Radyr 36 for £25. Both great courses, always presented in top condition. Hcap limit of 6 though.
I will also be playing Long Ashton (Bristol) again this year, that is also a great course.

Carnoustie, Mortonhall and Duddingston seem to have become my regular annual opens.

Scottish Women's is at Royal Aberdeen next year so looking forward to that. I might have another go at the Helen Holm at Troon and I think there's a scratch comp at Birkdale I saw mention of this year so I might see about entering that.

Long shot on here, I know, but If anyone knows of women's individual opens on good courses either side of the wall let me know! Especially anything the weekend after the Sunningdale trip....

Only off the yellows 😂😂 it's still 6500 and css will be at least one over par.

look forward to you shooting in the 60s 😉

If I can score well on the par 5's I should be able to do ok. Depending on the wind I can usually reach the 4th and 8th in 2 hits (even off the whites) but 13 is always a lay up. Not only is it long but there is just too much trouble down by the green to be hitting woods at it.

I've started a bit of a quest to knock off as many of scotlands good part in that.

Got the year ahead I'm looking at Cruden Bay and Lundin as my first couple of picks but will be keeping close to this thread for suggestions.

Hi folks,
Just wondered, similar to last year, what you had your eye on for next year.
Any top tracks you experienced this year that you have to go back to? Or any new one's you must sample.

Any that are ridiculous deals that can't be missed??

I am considering a trip to Wales so if anyone is keen let me know!

Cheers
Merv

Eyemouth
Stirling
Mount Ellen
Crowwood
Aberdour
Kinghorn
Gleneagles

All important for different reasons but will all be a blast and great value for money.

13 still perplexes me. I can get driver over the path and there is a lot of room left, but it's still a tough second shot.

Played as a 3 shotter still isn't easy either.

4&8 are gimme holes off all the tees really. So yeah birdie those and hang on

I had always planned on doing the Saunton open but cheers for mentioning the RND one as well.

Will be entering that one as well now

Also for Saunton what's the best way of doing it, West 1st or East 1st?

Only ever played my home course open, so hope to try a few others out next year. So far on the list I have:

Dunbar
Eyemouth Pairs
The Glen pairs
Monifieth
Royal Montrose

Plus any others around East Lothian and Fife areas, as that the easiest for me to get too.

I used to start on the West first, but always found the East a long slog in the afternoon, and never scored well on East. But since switching to East first, my scores on both courses have improved.

I wouldn't say there is a right or wrong way of doing it, just whatever suits your game. Another issue for me starting West first was the first 2 holes which I find quite fiddly, again my scoring has improved on those holes playing them at the start of a 2nd round.

we always do the east in the morning as it's tougher. We discussed changing but think we'd be too knackered for the east in the afternoon.

the RND event is Saturday & Sunday but you can enter just one of them. Won't be playing that next year though as I have a fourball practice round booked on the east.

was going to message you about the Alverstone Trophy to see about 'getting involved' 😁

i average about 5.5 on the 2nd of the west. Just cannot play it

Cheers Andy. East it is 1st then.

I will skip the practise round I think and just do RND on the Sunday and 36 at Saunton Monday, its only 0.3 back, what could possibly go wrong :D

Alverstone weekend is invite only to people outside the county and you need to know someone with good connections

I want to play a few Links courses next year.

Hopefully will do an individual open at Conwy in the summer.

Also would like to do somewhere on the wirral/southport.

Few other tracks locally I want to get to (Delamere Forest, Beau Desert, Mere)

Would like to do one of the Surrey courses but that is money/work dependent.

and that's why I'm asking 😘😉

It was my first look at either Saunton course in last year's Easter challenge so started on the east. Driver, 3 iron to a foot into the wind down the first and I was basically thinking about the winners speech!

Im definitely going east first again this year. It's almost a stroll in comparison in the afternoon then. 20th last year, better first round needed.
