Open Ticket Prices

Value-wise its not bad. 40-60 quid for whole day, potentially 14 hours, is pretty gpod these days but its still a lot of cash to watch some guys chasing a ball aroind a field - a very nice field though!

I dont think its too bad to be honest.

You pay anything form £30 to £100 for a conert ticket these days for 2 hours entertainment. An SPL match will cost you £20-£25 for 90 minutes of non entertainment. If you were to go on the Thursday you are guaranteed golf from 7:00am till 9:00pm. Thats 14 hours. Not sure what the practice days will be like but the players will stop to sign stuff and have a bit of fun

The downside is that St Andrews is not that great a venue to follow someone all the way round as you only get down one side of the fairway and some greens are quite far away. Best to get in one of the stands at the loop and you can see a few holes but these are usually very busy

What StuartD said.

St Andrews is brutal to watch golf during the open as the crowds even on the practice days are 5+ people deep and you can only access one side of the fairway.

Personally I will be playing golf in the mornings and watching in the afternoons depending on the weather.

I got my season ticket for £200 so superb value seeing as I will be there Sunday to Sunday and most hours of play.

St Andrews during an Open.....you canny beat it. :)

It's good value for me and the practice days are really good as it's quieter and the players are much more accessible and chatty etc. On the tournament days you certainly see much more of the action on the TV but get none of the atmosphere which is terrific. Also, remember that accompanied U16's are free so can be brilliant value for anyone with a couple of kids into golf.

I'll be attending for the first time on Saturday and Sunday. Managed to get free accommodation which swung it really.

Has anyone got any first timer tips to boost the viewing experience.

Taking in a crate to stand on perhaps. :p Frowned upon?

Also things like binoculars etc.

Me and Teegirl are going on Wednesday.
You'll know it's me. I'm the one selling V-Easys out of a wheelbarrow just outside the clubhouse :D

Agree with all of this, the cost of watching the Open compares very favourably with all other forms of entertainment, be it sport, theatre or concerts.

I'm pretty sure crates, step ladders and the like are now banned. Binos are a good idea.

As others have said, St Andrews is a horrible spectator venue, if it was me and you want to see the course, then get there very early and follow one of the first groups, then pick a spot for the day and stick to it until you're right at the front, or are in a grandstand, as viewing becomes very difficult following groups round once the crowds are in.

I would stay at home also, st andrews isnt the best place to watch, although nice, there arent places that make watching easy.

The TV is your friend, and its not £5 for a bloody pint of cider!!!

better saving your money for the Seniors the following week...Carnoustie is better for watching, the price will be cheaper and the standard of golf will no doubt be exceptional
