Should the R&A ever add another golf course to the list of courses used for the Open Championship?

I'm currently working on a job that includes promotional stuff for a couple of links courses and Royal Dornoch is one... What a course! I know it's a wee bit out the way, but our island isn't exactly huge!

Another course is the new Castle Stuart course that the GM event is being held at next year.

As far as i can see, they meet every credential for being an Open venue(s).

There must be a fair few others out there as well!

The problem with Royal Dornoch is the local infrastructure apparantly,to many minor roads and not enough hotel rooms. I wonder if it would be possible to return the open to Portrush someday,or any other Irish links course?

my answer to your initial question is yes, why not? If you find a cours which can challange the pro's then i'm all up for it. Unfortunately as well as the course, you need to look at the local infrastructure, sometime's this can't handle the size of the event.

Royal Portrush would be a great venue and would be a great test of golf unless your Rory McIlroy who had a 61 there (scary score by the way). Hotel wise there's one right next to the biggest nite club Kellys what a place spent 5 nights in there in June (quality) that would be right up the players alley. :D

Sure , why not.

Golfs a world sport and why should the majors be hogged by the same countries each year. Perhaps one day we will also have an Australasian , Middle East or African major also.

What do you think ????

I personally dont think they should add anymore courses to the rota the courses they play are iconic of the Open and should not be changed.

As said in previous posts, infrastructure is a necessity. Turnberry and Carnoustie needed major road improvements before the Open returned to these venues.

And more still needed at Turnberry !!

Hoylake needed a lot of work too I believe - not too much on the course but around the town and surrounding areas.
I think they've got enough on the rota at the moment. If any fail to maintain the standard then they've got a few to think about.

Agree. Royal Dornoch would be a belter of a test for the Open but the Castle Hotel would be just a wee bit crowded. Infrastructure is the thing and Dornoch just doesn't have it.

RCD.
They will never do it, as I think the Pros would be humbled by it. Nice hotel, right by the course too. You can't just blast it around RCD either. It would be nice to see, but will never happen.

What about floating hotels? They used these for the Natwest Island games in Shetland a few years back, for spectators and competitors, it was a big success.
