Oh yes it seemed so easy, open up an account with Paddypower, Transfer £20 from your card and off you go, have fun.

Now Im an Ex Bank manager, I am cautious, I do things methodically, without taking unnecessary risks

So I put £10 on Luke Donald and another tenner on Jiminez early on in the matchplay

Suddenly my £20 was £45

So I put £15 each on Kaymer, jiminez and Donald for the next round

and suddenly my £45 was £125

Hey this is good

Then I put £20 each on Bubba, Donald and Kaymer in the quarters

My 125 was now £210

So I paid back the original £20 plus £50 for a hybrid i just got off ebay and decided to run the rest

I looked at the footy

No way were West ham going to beat Liverpool
No Way were Man city going to lose to Fulham (Sorry Homer)
No way were The Arse going to lose to Birmingham

I also put £20 on Donald to win

So far all the footy scores have not gone my way and so im hoping that Donald does the business (i up after 3 so far)

I have realised how easy it is to get greedy and to cock it all up
It would have been easy to reach for the card and put another few quid in. but thats a mugs game

If I do it in the future, I will be more cautious and try to get out on top, and not ride my luck

Still look on the bright side, I got a new Hybrid for free
But it is so easy to get sucked in, so beware fellow forumers

maybe I should just stick to golf bets in the future

A similar thing happened to one of my old work colleagues.

He built up a fairly healthy £300+ in his online betting account through boxing and football bets.

He then discovered 'Deal or no deal' online.

Lost the lot in about an hour!

Moral of the story? You'll NEVER meet a poor bookie. Especially one who's online.

My only plus point of the weekend was a ten spot on the Brummies at 13/2.....just as well cos the cupboard was bare if it didn't come in and it would have been a top up for another bet and it's a long time since I had to do that!

See what I mean,

In the long run you never win. :D

They say it's a mug's game.

Proof indeed :D

My thoughts on gambling:

Don't

Ever

In the long run, you'll never win.

Golfmmad.

Not strictly true, but it's long odds on that you'll fail.

I have won, but not by using my judgement. That would be doomed to failure.

Never felt the urge to gamble. Hell, I don't even know how to put a bet on!
Never even been in a bookies.

Gamblers very rarely tell you when and how much they've lost but can't wait to tell you how much they've won!

There is a guy in the village where I live that has been told by the bookie that his limit is €50. He took the last bookie for €32,000 in the space of 6 months and they say nobody ever wins

I used to put some healthy sums on the golf... and won more than I lost over the piece.

My worst loss? £250 each way on Goosen for a USPGA or a US Open, I think. He came 6th! Fortunately that nice Paddy Power gave me £250 of that stake back because I missed out by a place (needed top 5). They didn't need to. More fool them.

Could have been a really bad day at the office. At the time I could afford it, though. Still. It was a salutory lesson and don't go anywhere near the sums I used to. Easy to get sucked in when it's going well, though.

I wouldn't go near footy betting with a bargepole, by the way. That really is a mug's game. Less predictable than the lottery. Oh, apart from when Greece won the Euros. Got £400 off of that for 0-0 half time, 1-0 full time. I let it lie there!

Lucky he is still allowed back, I once took just over £34k off a Corals branch and when I collected, I was told that my business was not welcome anymore. Was absolutely crapping myself, carrying that much cash in a few carrier bags back to my car.

It is possible to win, but it's just as much work as any other job. The professional gambler that people picture being a playboy and spending all day lounging by the pool, is actually working hard, like an accountant, and then working just as hard again to try and get his money down without being identified.

Sadly I am not one of these people, but I used to work for a company thats a major player in the gambling world, so at the time I met some very interesting characters and had all sorts of interesting contacts.
