Hi Guys,

I have finally gotton round to completing my 3 cards for handicap and my third one is my PB and a target I set myself for this year. (to break 100 on my home course)

I feel like a sub 100 has been coming shooting 100 the last god knows how many times but I just couldn't shave one shot off!

Here are my last three cards and it would be great if someone knows how to work out what my handicap would be?

What's the par? Do you know the SSS?

From there it's easy. There's at least 5 shots to come off the "97" card, as you can only score a double bogey for h'cap purposes.

Actually, I've just realised where you're a member...!

Call it 92. Your SSS is 71. That's 21.

It will be based on the best card (not average of three) and the higher scores reduced to double bogey. Depends on what SSS is but should be about 19.

Edit. Since RGDave just posted that he thinks SSS is 71 then indeed it should be 21 (if I'm amending in the right direction that is)

I make your adjusted scores (ie any scores higher reduced to a double bogey) to be
Card 1 95
Card 2 96
Card 3 92

So card 3 will be used, being your best adjusted score, but without knowing the Standard Scratch Score (SSS) for your course, I can't calculate your handicap.

Find out the SSS, subtract it from 92 and that should be your handicap.

As Dave said its 71...

Thanks for doing this gents... I am going to have another beer now!

I was expecting 28 so would be over the moon with that. I set a target of 18 in May when my membership ends...

Time for some comps now.

Cheers for all your replies.

That's the kind of scores I've been putting together aswell. I assumed it would mean a handicap of around 28.

Similar thoughts to me but I believe your initial hc is calculated rounding down your big scores to a double bogey. Once you have a handicap the rounding only kicks in for scores above a nett double bogey - quite a bit different if you are improving and cutting out the really big scores on a few holes.

congrats on breaking the 3 figure barrier and with card in hand.

21 looks likely to me well played decent starting h/cap there mate.

Yes. 21 is NICE. Far better than many, it must be said. i.i.r.c. my best card was about 97 too. I got 24, but there was probably less high and low scores.

That was nearly 20 years ago. Time flies.....

PS, I let you know next time I'm @ Calderfields.

I went to the DG golf there a few months back. Bit of a wasted journey, my wallet was 40 miles away!

A quick way to cut your score would be by looking at your course management on holes 11 and 14 - you have dropped a load of shots there over the 3 rounds.
