I'll start with those professional sports which have no place in the Olympics:

Golf
Tennis
Football
Basket ball

Add in a few non sports:

Archery.
Rythmic gymnastics.
Sychronised diving.
Diving full stop.
Synchronised swimming.
Yachting.
Beach volley ball.

A few weird ones:

Greco roman wrestling.
Judo (if you were fighting for your life, you wouldn't be using Judo).
Walking.

I'd combine a few events, like individual gymnastics with team gymnastics, and combined events with individual. One shot at a routine should be it, not 3 goes. Watching the same guy on a pommel horse 3 times is dull.

I'd thin out the swimming. Do we really need 4 styles? Who would swim butterfly from a sinking boat? Why butterfly and not dog paddle, or side stroke? Meddley? What's that for?
Free style only for me.

Get rid of the music, and posturing from the floor routines. Actually, get rid of these too, acrobatics belong in the circus.

No wonder no one is bothering to turn up and watch. The real stuff starts on Friday.

Basically any sport which an Olympic Medal is not the pinnacle of your sport (so agree with you on golf, tennis and basketball). However the exception to this is football, which has been an Olympic sport for over 100 years now and therefore before the first world cup was played. But it should either revert back to being for amateurs (and therefore is the pinnacle for amateur footballers) or being exclusively for U23s and scrapping the absurd '3 players over 23 allowed' rule.

Football / basketball should be strictly for amateurs if it was to stay in (like boxing seem to do).

Then if you included Golf/Tennis etc also for amateurs then that would be fine, but will never happen as they want the cash from the interest/crowds it generates.

Swimming has far too many events and medals up for grabs, if you are a world class swimmer you could challenge in 3-4-5 events, whereas take Jess Enniss, elite athlete but she gets 1 shot!!

What!! No Beach Volleyball!!!

Womens Beach Volleyball is the greatest ever Olympic sport and the whole Olympics should invole this fantastic spectacle, sod every other sport:p

Same applies to beach volleyball. The fitness and endurance they have is incredible.

It's still a beach game, not a sport. Might as well put Boules in for the french, and frizbee for the Americans. A bit of French cricket and we are sorted.

Dressage is tough, but stick it in a circus where it belongs.

Alot of these games are there becaose they were in the origional games tho, they have evolved a wee bit , swimming , shot putt , javelin , hammer , running (now athletics ) dont forget when the games were invented velodromes or carbon fibre bicycles etc were along way off .. so they had what was relevent at the time , so they are there for that reason ..

If they are going to have diving, then dive-bombing should be an Olympic sport too. You let a few kids swim across the deep end and you get points for how close you can get to hitting them without the lifeguard blowing his whistle.

Just been watching the fencing - mens foil semis - brilliant!

Archery is too is an excellent sport. Shares many aspects with golf - need a good good eye, good aim, good posture and and a steady hand plus lots of techno gear geekery. Also great historic roots in Merrie England.

Both great traditional sports. Keep e'em

If no archery then surely no 10 metre air pistol. Not much better than spud guns across the playground :p

Judo (if you were fighting for your life, you wouldn't be using Judo).
Walking.

Roman wresting is as valid as womens mud wresting and BOTH should be included.... one of them once the kids have gone to bed :p

Agree with Judo also although most of the stuff you see outside a night club at 2am is hardly proper fighting either if you're trying to win! unless maybe it's judo?

Walking should definitely stay in but should be around 18 holes with a trolley to show how slow play can be improved OR around Asda to prove to the wife it shouldn't take so damn long!!!

I sort of agree with Murph and sort of think on the other side of the coin he's having a laugh. Get rid of these staple events of any olympics even though we are crap at most of them and what do you have left. Not a lot
