Olympic sports which shouldn't be

Men's épée tomorrow will be better. Easier to understand. No priority, one light, one hit, no off target.

Very emotional sport, fencing.

Hands up on the forum, who apart from Murph has ever fenced (not the gardening type either !) A right posh sport, up there with croquet, fives, and real tennis. Chuck it out of the Olympics, and replace it with darts. Guaranteed gold medal for GB.

Archery is too is an excellent sport. Shares many aspects with golf - need a good good eye, good aim, good posture and and a steady hand plus lots of techno gear geekery. Also great historic roots in Merrie England.

I'd keep archery but get rid of those ridiculous arrow launching devices. Give them a small bow & a long bow with proper arrows.
Keep it real for God's sake!

Slime.

P.S. With Lineker as the target please!

As a former International Judoka, I would quite happily use it to save my life. I punch like a girl, but I can tangle anyone up so they cant punch and render them unconscious through chokes or break their arm. If someone comes at me with a knife I can run quite fast as well.

Surely the joy of the Olympics is seeing all these sports that most people are so unfamiliar with, and finding that someone in the GB team is really quite good at them.

I used to do epee and having competed internationally ill agree its definatly not a sport to watch but epee is definatly the easiest to understand. I would have given anything to be part of the olympic team untill I was unable to contine and still would now.

For the next we will have kite surfing which replaces wind surfing, I cannot begn to explain how much effort this has taken to be included and how many people have put a lot of time into getting this to happen as as someone who currently plays an active role in the promotion and participation of power kite sports Im really pleased to see this happen even if i know i dont stand a chance of getting there myself there are people i know who will and that we stand a good chance of walking away with gold or silver for a long time if freetyle ever gets included.

back on track, sports that dont belong dressarge, it dosent see to match to any of the olympic ideas to me but then again im not passionate about it and im sure someone who is will dissagree

Emotional....ha ha superb, fencing! Jug ears summed up the highlight of today in terms of medals.. Tally ho!! Folk that look like horses sitting on horses and lowping over fences, how is that a proper sport??

Athletics (like swimming) has too many events, its just run, run a bit further, a bit more, a bit more, a bit more, a bit more, a bit more , a bit more and a bit more (and possibly a bit more again)

They should just have 100m, 400m, 1500m, 10,000m and Marathon - they are all different distances that no-one doubles up on.

The jumps (long, triple, high and pole) shoudl all be a singel competition and you have to do them all
Similar for Shot, Javelin Discus and Welly

but i suppose they have to pay for the stadium so teh more events the more spectators

Fencing with little bitty teeny bits of wire.
Sod that

+1.
Forget your foils, rapiers & epees................lets see proper fencing.
Use 6' x 6' panels with 4" x 4" posts, then have different event lengths, say 100m, 200m, 400m etc. all the way up to 10,000m (drop the marathon obviously), that'll bring the crowds a flocking.

I think any sport for which the olympics isn't the pinnacle should be out

How do you define the pinnacle though?

The perfect summary that the Olympics is for everyone lies with Wayne Gretzky in 1998 at the Winter's in Nagano. After losing the semi-final he sat on the team bench and cried. After everything he has ever won and achieved in the game (look it up for yourself) of ice hockey who'd have thought Olympic success could matter so much to any one individual?

me, tried epee for a bit.

target for next Olympics should be to chuck a non sport out not add one
simple to do, if you can't measure it in some indisputable way - it's out.

and I don't think you want to revert to the original events, those included poetry, and it was men only - in the nude

oh, and what about that Dutch bloke who keeps winning darts, he could spoil your party
