Olympic golf [again]

i dont think any actually entered this time around ,but they were allowed if they so wished ,and obviously sanctioned by the british boxing board . im sure that we wouldnt enter anyone anyway as it would take a space from an amateur boxer who`s whole career could be the olympic games.

to be honest if you were a pro boxer and entered ,it would be a bit of a bummer if you were beaten in the first round by an amateur.

Wasn't trying to change your opinion and agreed with you in my opening line, as for Tennis and Golf not being deep rooted they were both played in the early Olympics and Tennis featured in the 1st Modern Olympic games.

Yes but a 100 years ago so not deep rooted since then as it only a recent re addition especially golf this year and I know that you were not trying to change my mind, lol.
I believe it sucks now and I have just been informed that Pro boxers have been invited to participate in this years Olympics and that they are no longer wearing headgear (although the women are) whats going on there? double standards?

Anyway the world would be a boring place if we all agreed about everything but Sponsors and greed have destroyed the values of the Olympics and sport in general in my opinion.

Lol yes it would be a big embarrassment for them, I just looked it up and the WBA has barred any ranked fighters or champions from entering and rightly so hopefully the other many governing bodies will adopt the same policy.

seeing as the golfers dont tote their own bats around the course ,and that the caddy gives helpful information as well as tote the bats ,do they get a medal as well .bit naff if they werent recognised in some way.
discuss.

I thought about it last week when the men were playing but quickly decided no medal

Nationality has been mentioned but also not everyone will have brought their own/regular caddies and may even be using a local person. Either way the extent of their participation in the sport does not warrant an Olympic medal, when you drill it down they don't actually participate in any way that would differentiate them from say a diving coach

Also medals aren't generally given to support folks in other sports (the only one I can think of that might get a medal is a rowing coxswain but not sure if that's even an olympic event) the rest of the coaches/assistants etc typically don't get one

Just read through the rest of the thread and if I was caddying out there I think I'd really really want...

... a double sausage & egg muffin!
