seeing as the golfers dont tote their own bats around the course ,and that the caddy gives helpful information as well as tote the bats ,do they get a medal as well .bit naff if they werent recognised in some way.
discuss.

All caddies aren't same nationality as the player they caddie for,so nope.
Plus you can get a gold medal for carrying someone's bag.

I assume they're being paid by the player as per normal....can't believe they won't be funded in some way. Everyone else is....

Caddies get nowt, classed as equipment, going on what some of them posted on twitter after the mens event, there expenses and uniform was paid for by Players nation, no fee, chance to do an Olympics.

it would be nice if they got some sort of official keepsake though .
mind you it would make better viewing to see the players carry their own bag.

Now thats a good idea and It would be more interesting but for me Amateur Golfers and Tennis players should be playing for medals not seasoned pros who have it all already. If pros play then it should just be for exhibition, the Olympics has lost its way.

Is there anyone in the whole British Olympics team who isn't a professional at their sport? Maybe the archers, shooters etc but the rest are full time and paid. Usain Bolt will be one of the richest people appearing at these games, anyone suggesting he shouldn't be there? The request for amateurs only at the Olympics is totally out of date I'm afraid. Pretty much all of the sports there contain professionals now.

Agree with the sentiment, but I honestly believe even those we class as amatuers are full time sponsored athletes, very few genuine amatuer sportsmen and women at the top level left.
Not sure it would attract the media and sponsorship attention if it went back to true amatuers.

Yes they are but Golf only got brought back this year and Tennis in the late 1980s so the 2 sports are not as deeply rooted in Olympic games history.
Anyway its my opinion and that will never change but I can agree to disagree. Many sponsors ruin sport thats why we have Coca cola and Mcdonalds sponsoring sport when they should not be allowed anywhere near it.

Wasn't trying to change your opinion and agreed with you in my opening line, as for Tennis and Golf not being deep rooted they were both played in the early Olympics and Tennis featured in the 1st Modern Olympic games.

None of the Boxers are Pros either along with many other sports there, the difference is that Golf has just been brought back this year and Tennis in the 1980s and that came back initially as an exhibition sport and should have stayed that way.

I agree big business and sponsors have ruined the games and in my opinion sponsors like Mcdonalds or Coca cola have no place there as they are as bad as the Tobacco companies that used to ply their wares through sport.

There are plenty of very good amateur golfers coming through the ranks and the Olympics should (in my opinion be for them) each to their own but for me Pros competing in either Golf or Tennis is wrong and boring.

I agree with the general sentiment but that ship has sailed a long time ago. Remember the basketball dream team a while ago? That pretty much signalled the end of the Olympics as a truly amateur event. The athletes are all paid professionals and if they can be, they are the heart of the Olympics, then so can everyone else.

Exactly, funded by UK Sport, link below explains exactly how it's done.

Fine post. Anyone wanting the Olympics to return to the days of amateurs are about 3 decades too late.

i think you will find that pro boxers are allowed in the olympics now.

You may be right but under Amateur rules so its an entirely different propositon as they wear headgear and its not about concussive punching and clean knockouts but tip tapping and point scoring and bent officials, lol..
The whole thing has gone rotten to the core in my opinion.

You are right I havent this time because the coverage has been desperately poor, I saw a little of the long jump and the discus and the 100m final which Pro Boxers have entered? I would have thought that any ranked fighters would be barred from it.
