I have an on going row with my mum over wi-fi. She just cannot get her head around the fact that it is FREE!!!! and is adamant that she has to pay for it. And whilst I'm on, why do old people call AL-DI, ALLLDEEE (my grandson spotted this and says they call it Old-Di LOL)

Which wifi, where? nothing in life is free, even free wifi spots will be using the data collected from you using and selling it on, other places may have it as a nice to have so you shop in that shop etc. The wifi in your house you are paying for the broadband connection, so your mum is right. Nowt in life is free.

And its pronounced Al Dee.

You're welcome.

Free wi-fi on trains / buses / Premier Inn / Weatherspoons etc etc etc

And I said Al-Di

My mum - god bless her - was determined that yoghurt was pronounced yoh-goort. Now maybe it is. But then, back in the early 70s when Ski (in the upside down tub) appeared, I suspect not that many Glaswegians knew what it was - never mind how to pronounce it.

Good tip for anyone with messy teenagers.
Take a picture of their messy bedroom and any outrageous fashion trend and save it to show your grandchildren when she complains about them.

The shock on my granddaughters face when she saw a 1960's photo of granny in a short mini skirt was priceless.

Premier inn, 50 quid plus a night, ergo you are paying for it. Thats like saying you get the bed for free... WiFi has now become a must have in terms of attracting customers. Same for buses, trains and pubs.

And as i mentioned, the bigger more savvy companies will be using your use data for either their own market intelligence or to sell on. I know a large retailer that physically maps how people walk around there store, what they stop at for ages etc etc, all so they can use this to create a more profitable store.

So is it free? Not a chance.
