Saw Faldo mention a few times on the forums today, and this reminded me something my dad used to bang on about, basically Faldo recommended to him when he met him a wentworth that as an amateur you should train your swing using 1 club on the ideology that your iron game should feature one consistent swing. So today armed with my 8 iron hit 50 balls and focused on my swing only. Was happy with 41 out of 50 and now hitting the 140 marker without carry, which for me is brilliant. So, when your at the range are you armed with a full bag or do you take specific clubs to work specific shots?

I generally just hit a p wedge and a 6 iron. P wedge to warm up and practice some manufactured shots (knock downs, punches, high floaters, chip and runs etc) 6 iron to work on a basic swing. I use a 6 because it's easy enough to hit but not so easy that it will mask a bad swing. Also can use an ex-demo club to save wear and tear on my playing set. I sometimes hit different 6 irons just for fun (I have a few ex-demo ones) and occasionally hit a full blown blade just to see how good my ball striking really is (or isn't).

i start with wedge and work my way down the irons....maye hit a few drivers.. dont move down to the next club until im consistently hitting 4 or 5 exactly how i want and hitting the targets i am aiming for. think too many people just take the driver out and smash it all over the place!

Thats pretty much how I see it. My game had gone off a bit so went and had some refresher lessons. The only club I hit was my 6 iron to get the swing going how it should be. Now when I warm up, the 6 iron is the club I use, doing a practine routine which helps get the club in the correct plane
