I see that Callaway have bought over Ogio. Looks like another quality company has been swallowed up probably never to be see again by a big player in the golf game.

Shame.

I've owned a couple of Ogio bags over the years and they've been excellent. Innovation wise they have always had features a year or so ahead of other bags.

It's a bit like Adams Golf. That was a tragedy when they went, best manufacturer of hybrids on the market when TM bought and killed them off.

What brands have disappeared that you miss.

( Incidentally I see Callaway also bought over Travis Matthews.)

From what I've seen in the press it seems both brands will run in a similar vein to Odyssey - under the Callaway umbrella but a brand in their own right.
Callaway have also bought Jack Wolfskin

Hogan made some lovely irons back in the day, I think they are now a 'boutique' brand so maybe they get going again. The apex irons were lovely.

I feel like they've been part of Callaway for a while. The NLU guys have promoted Ogio in the past and seems like every brand they promote is in some way linked with Callaway - Travis Matthew is another.

Callaway bought Ogio a couple of years ago. Looks like they're trying to expand into general outdoor activities rather than being golf dominant going by the Jack Wolfskin purchase.

It's just the way it is in the sporting goods industry, all of them are either owned or soon to be owned by the bigger boys. I wouldn't be surprised if Callaway itself gets sucked up by Adidas or Nike one day.

That seems an odd buy unless Callaway want to diversify outside of golf. I have a Jack Wolfskin coat, for anyone who doesn't know them they are the German equivalent of Berghaus or North Face, but I don't see how that fits into the golf environment unless it is not meant to? They may bring waterproofing tech to Callaway perhaps?

I'm assuming it will be for their waterproofing expertise. Callaway aren't (in my opinion) a go to brand for waterproof gear so maybe they see this an area they can really get into and challenge GG and Proquip etc. I assume as far as Ogio goes it'll utilise the specialist knowledge in their bag range and so we're see a lot of Callaway bags in the same sort of designs but they'll also let Ogio trade under their own name like Odyssey

There are some surprises in ownership in a lot of the world. Lamborghini are owned by the Audi group, Titleist are essentially FILA, SRIXON are basically dunlop, Jaguar are owned by the land rover group.

I genuinely didn't know that. (y)

Hopefully Ogio stay as a separate entity altogether from Callaway.
