Anyway, my point is that it's caused quite the controversy and having a go at some of us by suggesting we are in the minority is hard to justify.
Then surely we should all wait for the results of the survey to be published.

Will it be slated if it shows you are in a minority as much as it will be lauded if you’re in fact the majority?

I think Carly Frost, just to single out one, knows the system and grasps the change pretty well. She makes her point very well in the Golf Monthly article.

Surely the survey wouldn't have been necessary if enough golfers shared your view on WHS?

I think the question you want answering is to do with introducing players who are new to the game into your club? That will be done in different ways depending on the club and has little to do with WHS.
In my line of work it is considered good practice to seek feedback from users on a regular basis regardless of whether the a system is considered good, bad or indifferent.

Just looking at England. You really think the majority of the 700k golfers with a handicap are as enraged as you?

Or do you maybe think there is a minority who shout about in a bit of an echo chamber that gives them that impression?

Even on here it was a small minority. Some were mildly irritated most either weren’t bothered or were happy with it.

Maybe, maybe not.
Sometimes systems, procedures and processes are changed whether people like it or not. Some people don’t like change, even if it makes their life easier. That’s life.
So good practice to get feedback when it suits you otherwise you know best?

Yes. My question was why should handicaps automatically go down just because of the results of a competition?

Are we back to looking for comparison between two handicap systems?
What is CSS? You can probably Google it if you need to.

Your chance of winning may or may not be low but given that you are consistent, what score would be a poor score? What is the lowest in your 8 from 20?

IMO, disregarding GP cheating, one of the causes of high cappers seemingly winning too many now, is the old UHS ratchet and the change of emphasis from 'potential' to 'form'. Where under UHS a 'poor' score only increased caps by 0.1, this could mean an erratic (hi cap) player not going up quickly enough. Whereas now the WHS 8/20 reflects this more rapidly and the odd flash-in-the-pan comes to the fore. Unfortunately this and to some extent poor committees has highlighted the phenomenon.
Best 8 range is 1.0 to 6.2 and HI is 4.6
9th best is another 6.2 and then 10th and 11th are 7.0

The SD = 1.0 was a round with a great back nine with 3 birdies and 1 bogey. Next best score is a 3.6. That best score was quite exceptional for me - came 4th on Captain's Day.
Without that 1.0 (as if it had never happened) my range would be 3.6 to 6.2 and and HI of 5.2 with a best score of 3.6 being just 1.6 below handicap.

I think I've had only two occasions in 4 years where a 7.0 has featured very briefly in my best 8.
With 7.0 as a median, I think the best answer I can give for a poor score is SD = 8 or more.

And an article from 2019 explaining it again.
It was 2018, here's an article from England golf explaining it

To answer your second question first, we've never stopped comparing systems, how can you say one system is good or bad if you have no comparison? It's appears like RichA you've never played under UHS, and don't seem to grasp the differences

Your first question, how exactly would you have handicaps go down? As a result of a raffle?

The difference is irrelevant. We are no longer using the old system. So comparing various parts of the old system to the new is entirely pointless.

Given handicap comps are pretty much that. Why not? 🤣

Let it go and just enjoy playing golf. It will be much better for you in the long run. Stressing out this much about a hobby can’t be good for you.

You forgot to switch accounts there mate :sneaky:

Yes Rich has said that a couple times, so, you're all for regression not progress then? You're not even prepared to consider that those of us who do have a comparison find the new system much worse? If your car of choice brought out anew model that was much worse in every way, would you still buy it, or would you look elsewhere?
