Office debate - Golf shorts

Golf shorts look rubbish you are not playing football wear pants and look like a golfer.
Oh dear freddie,I'm a postman and one of those who wears shorts all year round,if i get wet, give myself a quick wipe with a tea towel that i carry and hey, i'm dry, same on the golf course tailored shorts, can't see a problem :)

Apart from all the above reasons and they look scruffy

Looking 'scruffy' is a totally subjective opinion! I see tons of guys wearing chinos and polo shirts on the course and they can look scruffy IMO....and chinos will ride up the crack of your arse if you're 20 stone too, just as nicely as shorts!

and besides all that, where are you going to put your tees, pitchmark repairer, pencil, scorecard if you are wearing footy shorts,as these have loads of pockets,!!!!

Dont get me wrong on this one, I have actually seen a couple of golfers wearing shorts who look smart and tidy .

My problem is that most I have met who wear the shorts, all seem to think they look good, or real smart. I think that most of the people I have seen wearing shorts look like scruffy school kids or daft. If I had taken my camera with me the other week when the 'shorts fancy'crew were on display, I would have clicked a few, the ones I saw truely looked pratts. :D

Most people who wear them are not exactly the picture of fitness and tend to look like an egg on legs (not that pretty legs to boot) their shapes make the shorts hang badly, and when there is no material weight reducing the crease effect, by the end of a round(or sooner) they just look scruffy. :(

Very very few people can carry them off with style and tidy appearence, but most who wear them think they can. Even women in some styles of shorts look like something has gone on in them by the end of a round :o.

Wear your shorts by all means, but I wont vote in their favour if there is ever a vote to ban them.

If your legs are as good as mine, why not!

Tailored shorts are fine.
I wear them with the trainer sock.

TBH if someone didn't want to play golf with me because I had shorts on. I wouldn't want to play with them anyway. Would also be tempted to stick the "heed" on.
What a stupid thing to say. By all means, have an opinion and don't like them, but, to come out with a statement like that......

I'll stop now before I go off on one.

How very overly aggresive - To me if someone dosn't dress to play golf they do not want to play golf, simple as that. I have refused to play with people who have turned up in shorts and always will thats why I said it because it is true.

It was overly aggresive yes, over the top, possibly, but what really gets up my tits about this game is the snobbery that goes with it in some clubs and from individuals who turn their nose up at such things but can't be bothered repairing pitch marks, divots etc....

There are far more working class people playing the game now. It is not an eliteist sport anymore although sometimes I do wonder.

If the club rules allow shorts (tailored) then waht is the problem?

I would rather see someone in tailored shorts than football shirt, sports shorts, combats, low slung jeans, holey jeans, etc........

I'm in.....VIG FOR PRIME MINISTER !!!

I have to say I wouldn't refuse to play with anyone in shorts. In fact the guy I played in my match had a khaki pair on, white sock and white/brown shoes and looked smart but being ex RAF I guess there was a certain amount of given in his appearance passing muster.

I think shorts have a place in the warmer climates of the US, Algarve etc but for the three or four weeks a year its actually warm enough to warrant shorts in the UK you'd be much better off in a nice pair of lightweight trousers especially if your rough is as long and prickly as mine

I dont think it is ever too hot in the UK for trousers. Breathable materials are what everyone needs

freddielong and myself are inthe process of developing our own club, at which we shall have regular shorts burning socials. All GM members welcome

:)
