Another debate has broken outin the GM office. What are your thoughts on wearing golf shorts? I for one don't see a problem with them but Tappers has gone off one one again.....

Shorts are fine....no worse than John Daly's strides...as long as you have the legs to carry them off. Played last month with a mate with very thin, very pale legs. The group behind commented in the bar that every time they saw me, I was always playing shots from just inside the OOB :D :D

Is his issue with shorts per se or the requirement at some clubs to wear long (knee length socks) with them. Personally I don't like them but I'm not against others wearing them providing they are tailored and smart. I would draw the line at these cargo type shorts with numerous pockets and tie cords.

I don't wear them myself on the golf course, but I don't have a problem with others that do.

That said, there are some out there that realy should'nt be wearing them. :D :D

I wear shorts, did so last night and will this evening.

Shorts should be tailored and plain but even tailored shorts can have side, patch, pockets. Nothing wrong with this if the material is 'sturdy' but not the flimsy, permanently creased cargoes, nor camouflaged or multi-coloured.

It's the three-quarter length things that should be banned.

Other than when playing field sports (football, rugby) long socks should not be worn with shorts - that's as bad as socks with sandals.

Come on Freddie. Are you being serious when you say that you would refuse to play golf with someone wearing shorts??

I take my golf very seriously at times but can't wait for the first opportunity to get out there in my shorts. There again, I've got the legs to go with them :p :p.

And why isn't it the "done thing"? I've never yet played a course where shorts are not allowed - provided that they are tailored and haven't got those pockets down near the knees.

Nothing wrong with taylored shorts. Mine come out on Grand National weekend and go back in the draw 31st October. Pants are for Southern softies. (especially pink, white and lime green ones.

I take my golf very seriously and would never let someone elses attire spoil my enjoyment.

Their bad behaviour possibly, their clothing never.

I have and always will refuse to play with someone in shorts

When you go home put your shorts on and your golf shoes stand infront of a mirror they look rubbish, shorts and shoes are not supposed to be worn together

I see pants as part of the uniform if you can't be bothered to wear it I can't be bothered to play with you

Years years ago, the "uniform" was shirt, starched collar, tie and plus-fours, and I don't see many people wearing that now. Nothing wrong IMHO with tailored shorts...none of this cargo-malarky mind you! That said, British weather dictates that you probably get to wear them no more than three times per season!

I'm getting worried about dear old Tappers. He seems to be having these moments where he goes off on one on a regular basis. Perhaps he needs to take some time off (I'm on the sub's bench if needed) or is it more to do with the thought that the GM OOM isn't going to be in his possesion for another year. That or he's recently lost his favourite ball and still getting over it!

I am a keen cricketer and sometimes play in extremly hot conditions, but of course always play in cricket whites with my shirt neatly tucked in. When coaching the colts at my club I recommend that they also wear the same as your appearence is the first thing the opposition sees and immediatly can give you an advantage (or disadvantage) depending on your appearence.

In cricket you have to run around, unlike golf, and games can last for sometimes 6 hours, yet you never hear people complain about not being able to wear shorts etc.

I think that people should wear what they want on the course when it comes down to shorts, but I believe that any immediate advantage that they would have on the first tee is lost.
