Is it appropriate dress code in Parliament?
I'm not bothered, are you?Is it appropriate dress code in Parliament?
Is it appropriate dress code in Parliament?
There is no dress code for women mp’s in the hoc, only a dress code for male mp’s.Next thing we’ll have discontent over female MPs wearing dresses that show too much cleavage - oops - nearly forgot - we’ve already had that have we not...
I am sure that there is a hoc dress code...probably written in less enlightened times ?

Did you see the full clip? She has a leg / ankle in plaster right now. She had to hop to get to the despatch box at which point part of the dress on her shoulder slipped down. She answers the question without realising what has happened.
I think if it had started out that way it would not really be work appropriate but if you see the full picture then it is just one of those things. On the upside, the dress has been flying off the shelves (good for shops), the mp has rightly laughed it off and she is now auctioning the dress for charity. The people having a pop are quite rightly coming off worse in this one.
Exactly, and they’ve only had 102 years since the first female mp to sort it out.Probably because when the dress code was written, there were no female mp's, and women probably didn't have the vote.
No, that’s a guide and actually states in the guide: There is no exact dress code. The dress code rules apply to all members of the HOC, male and female.

I think we know where that is goingIs there anything that says how honourable members should sit whilst the house is itself sitting.?

I think we know where that is going. In MP's defence, if you ever do a tour of the House you will be told that speakers are placed in the back of each seat, around shoulder level. There are times when to hear clearly you do not lean forward to hear the person speaking, you wont hear them, but slouch back to hear what comes out of the speaker. It makes them look as though they are sleeping or slouching and whilst they may be it is also a slightly unfair view. The chamber is badly designed, it is not built for the modern era, and this is one of the many weaknesses of it.
Parliament has always had a Dress Code for men as laid down in Erskine May, it never mentioned women, just men.You said above there is a dress code for men but not women. I posted the link I did to correct your mistake. ????

The link is the guidance updated in 2017 by Bercow.
Let’s be honest, you’re more interested in proving me wrong than adding to the thread. Well done.![]()
