Odyssey o-works putters

I just ordered the 1W after testing a whole bunch of putters which included the O-Works 1, Spider Tour Black and the Ping Sigma Anser. I thought it rolled beautifully, the greens were not at the best, slightly slow and a little bumpy from the rain and footprints, but it served its purpose in terms of showing which rolled the ball best. It will be interesting to see how it goes out on my home course where the greens tend to run quite fast.

I went into AG specifically to buy one of the new O-Works but after trying them out I ended up with one of the new Sigma Gs (Ketch B), just felt better to me.

Really liking the Ping Sigma range and feels far better off the face than the O-works. So tempted by the Wolverine. Couldn't miss on the demo green at the range tonight and love the feel. Tried the O-work again and it just doesn't seem to come off nicely. Can't describe it, certainly not a "dead" feel but something I'd not be comfy with on the course. Just my own view of course but noticed Crossfield and Lockey had some distance issues when they tried them

Wee update on these- so after a fair bit of practice I took onto the course and just could not get on with it on distance putts.... putts on 4 feet and in it was the best putter I have ever tried; not sure if due to the alignment help or the roll off the face but it really was excellent.....

But I had quite a few distance putts where I was putting 6-8 feet by or leaving 4 feet short.... I found the springy face really hard to judge. That's not to say it's not a good putter with maybe a lot of practice to get used to but I found I was standing over putts with no confidence. Another wee note in it's defence. Our greens are still a bit slow and sandy so that would maybe been an effect.

With me having a 30 day time limit (with AG) before I couldn't hand it back I just bit the bullet- at the end of the day I don't think I'd ever be happy with it. The sales rep did say I wasn't the 1st person to return one with the same reason for returning.

In the end he got me on SAM puttlab and tested about 6 putters and Tayloremade Daytona counter balance was winning all day but I then said I'd like to test a scotty Newport M2 (he hadn't offered me any scottys to test) but it performed even better. I'm not sure if it's because I so wanted this to be the best putter though as it's a thing of beauty.

He also gave me some drills and suggested I go back to using line for aim as I tend to aim ever so slightly to the right of the hole.

AG can sometimes get a bad rep (rightly so in some of my experience) but the one in East Kilbride were excellent so I will always go back to there if I am going to use AG. Top Class service.

Was in that store a week ago and the guys seemed really helpful.

Does that mean they're now selling your old putter in the cheap?

I don't know what they do with the 30 day returned models? It's practically brand new so they'll maybe use as a demo or send back to manufacturer? I don't think they'd sell on the cheap

i had the same problem with distance control, it was ok for lag puts, but for other puts i was going a few feet past or leaving it short. I just could not judge how hard to hit. I went a changed to a ping sigma putter, not had a chance to get on the course yet as it is so wet up here.

Twice I've used the 30-day guarantee, and both times chatting to the guy they've said they just get sent back to head office.

My guess is from there they make sure the item is good enough to put back into stock and send it out again.

Very interesting reading this, its so personal. The Ping Sigma just felt dead to me, couldnt get on with how it felt, where as the O-Works face felt soft which I prefer

A putter is so personal, its like a wife really...only less expensive to change

Yeah was kind of wondering why we are not seeing a load of barely used stuff at reduced rates....

For the uneducated what does the SAM Putt Lab assess?
