NRs are fine if you carry on playing, just not scoring. If it's so bad and affecting others, no need to extend the torture but you should finish off the round.

You learn more from one crap round than 10 good ones...

NRs and walking off is for wimps.

Don't NR. It's simple. I would hand in a 95 before I NR'd in any competition!

Even if im having a bad round i keep going to the very end and hopefully finish well enough to take into the next round, but every round and every day is different so i dont overly worry.I would never walk off as its disrespectful to my playing partners and could effect them as well.

Walking off is totally unacceptable. If you sign in for the comp then you have a duty to at least keep the score of the person whose card you are marking.

I`ve had the mis-fortune of starting as a 3 but finishing as a 2 when the one bloke walked in after 8. Won`t play comp with him again, especially as I found out afterwards he has a track record of it

I NR'd in our first major after thinking i'd find my ball over the dogleg, only to have lost it. Should have gone back to play it again but the course was packed and the group behind were ready to take their shots into the green (going for it as i had done for 2 into a par 5).

Given that i felt i'd be holding them all up i didnt score that hole but continued to play the remaining 10 holes. Finished not many over without including the 8th.

Would have been right up there playing off 12 at the time. Wished i'd gone back to replay it afterwards!

So, yeah I NR'd, but i didnt walk off or cause a scene or uneasyness for my partners.

Injury is the only reason to walk in (if you can), NRing is ok a bit pointless but ok, but I would expect anyone who walked in during a comp to receive a warning or short ban.

nr'd for the first time in Wednesday's medal after I made a total horlicks of the first hole. still mad playing the 2nd so wrecked that, then settled down and only had one other bad hole. (my playing partner was doing well until the 12th when he dumped two in the lake, nr'd that, then played OK on the rest).

we were the second group out and felt that whatever else we had to keep the momentum going for the rest.

truthfully the match should have been delayed as we could barely see the turn on the dogleg first through the mist - all of 220 yards away! (half an hour would have done)

I NR'd in our last medal. It was one of those where you can play anytime during the day with whoever you want.

We went after work and started about 5:15. The trouble was, everyone else had the same idea and it was slower than a weekend comp.
By the 7th I'd used up over half my shots. I hit my approach left into rough but thought I'd find it. Could I heckers like! There were people waiting all over the course including the group behind us waiting to play into the green so I didn't go back to play another ball.

I carried on playing the rest of the round and to mark the card I had, and ended up needing a 5 on the last to stay in the buffer zone..... took 8 :o

I've got no qualms about nr'ing as long as there's a good reason, but I can't imagine myself ever walking off the course on my own.

I've NR'd when I've not found the ball from the tee and it's too busy to walk back. I still play the rest of the holes, just pick up on putts to save time and not disrupt the flow of playing partner.

Only time I left the course was when it was peeing it down so hard that the clubs were slipping out of my hand and only when we'd both agreed to walk back in.

If I'm on the course, might as well carry on, there's a chance I'll either learn something about myself or the course...

You can still play on for your handicap even if you NR a hole in a medal, it'll just count as a nett double-bogey.

Not putting out is just getting 0.1 back for no good reason.

Didn't realise that, thanks.

Iv never NR'd......And i never will....Iv never given into anything before.......Probably stems from my days playing football....Keep giving it 100% till the final whistle.......Ill scramble my way round for 1 pointers before ill chuck the towel.

Had to NR a few weeks back after teeing off at 6.10 pm and got held up so we all had to as we were on the 16th at 10pm :o Was told NRing makes a mockery of the CSS but unsure. We have a few who do it when they have a crap score but it's what you played so put it in.

Even at my lowest points (and there have been many) I've always put my card in. If I come last so what. Someone has to and the only thing that really matters is getting the 0.1 back. I can handle the banter and its getting rid of the increase that becomes the challenge.

I signed a card t'other week which had strike-outs on three holes, because I didn't make a point. I finished every hole that game; three doubles with no points.
We have to fill/enter in our card on the computer. I filled it in using the reality of what happened that day. i.e. 6s not blobs.
1) I had the 6th best gross score (because all the proper players effectively N/Rd) and 2) I didn't hear a word about it. I expected to get some sort of DQ for signing.
The chap I played with that saw fit to strike me out on 3 holes is now permanently off my players-to-team-up-with list.
I know we've had the discussion about blobs or not before, but ALL my scores are listed on masterscoreboard. If every time I made a genuine 6 with no points, I entered a blob, then by the end of the year, it would look like I N/Rd almost every other game; since our computer system N/Rs your round automatically for some weird reason. masterscoreboard will of course record your points and position, but click on "view gross scores" and 7/10 players have N/R by their name.
