I've noticed after browsing my club's howdidido competition results that there are often a few people at the bottom with NRs. This weekend there were 6 from a field of 64. I could understand this in a medal as people might give up on a hole to save time but can't understand it in stableford.

Are people doing it to save face? Have they broken the rules in some way and are forced to record a NR?

Also does it effect the CSS? I was thinking if those 6 scores were bad scores surely the CSS would be higher and by recording a NR they are doing a disservice to the golfers who have had a good round.

NR will be the same effect as any other player failing to make buffer.

Someone withdrawing through injury will be different if the committee accept (and process as WD)

Reason - bit of save face, bit of lazy and a bit of frustration and torn up card all figure in discussions ( as does 'forgot')

I didn't think it was possible to NR in a stableford. I walked off (with my PPs) after two holes once when the weather became absolutely intolerable.... came up on the results with 2 pts.

I guess the NRs didn't put a card in at all.

I'm a bit confused by NR's in stableford on the how did I do website. I finished on 37 points which I know probably wouldn't have won but I did NR one hole as couldn't score so picked up.... but when I got emailed the results for the competition the standings are based on strokeplay, with all the NR's down the bottom- now one of these NR's could have had 45 points and won but in the standings it doesn't show it like that?

Can how did I do not display it in terms of points? Or has it been a mistake either by the club or the HDID website?

sounds like the comp may have been a medal not stableford?

If someone NRs in a Stableford at ours, the points they scored are still shown in the results, basically they blob all the holes they didn't play.

Are your individual scores shown on the system and, as suggested, does the comp title show medal or stableford! You won't be the first to blob one hole thinking a medal was a stableford!

Thats a straight DQ at my place..

Nothing happens at our place , theres no need to sign in on the computer , you can pay ,get ur card , play and enter your score when you finish (if you want)

ive brought it up numerous times , nothing has changed , ive even offered the solution , as it was in place a few years ago for a Captains prize ..

When you sign in on the computer it prints a label in the shop with your details , the person distributing the cards cant give one out without the label , job done anyone that doesnt return a card is shown as a NR ,

As Karen suggested This is probably where the OP is getting the NR's in the comp ..

BiB - Exactly the same as with us now that our new booking and signing-in system is fully up and running. We must sign-in on the computer but we don't have to enter our scores.

When I signed up said stableford, which I was looking forward to being a high handicapper, then also got email with start times and under type said stableford so I think it's a mistake on their end

Whilst a club can operate non golf penalties for failure to enter scores you can't be penalised.

Of course it's helpful all round if you do (when you can)

We dont even have to return our card at ours. If you dont nothing happens. no NR, no DSQ, no .1 back, nothing. When the list of winners go up there isnt even a mention of anyone who hasnt returned their card.

The club can't enforce that we enter scores on the computer as it is in the shop and the shop can be closed if you play a comp round late in the day (we have some comps that you can enter and play in at any time of the day). In these circumstances you put your card in the box in the entrance hall.
