Whichever has the best prize!!
Once won a long drive prize at a charity golf day. The other prizes were nearest the pin and fewest putts.
I got a driver
The NTP guy got a wedge
The fewest putts guy got a putter.
Just what we didn't need - I'd just smacked a drive 323 yards. What the hell did I want another driver for???
For those coming to Ascot there are some nice prizes for NP and LD. Personally I know I'll never win longest drive so I'd prefer a nice shot close to the cup. To be honest I'd rather not win either and take the 1st prize instead proving that I had the whole game and didn't peak for one shot.
Rather smack it futher than any one else, but thats only because I know if I was to do it for real I couldn't . Although thinking about it, i'd like to win both
I voted for nearest the pin- I am not a short hitter anyway so don't get worried about 'being the longest'. Also scoring wise a nice shot into a par 3 is more likely to help your scorecard than a good drive which is then easy to mess up- as I know very well!
If you think about it, the only reason we want to leather the ball off the tee is so we have a shorter - and theoretically easier second shot. That's my opinion anyway!
Nearest to the pin for me every time...........
...Although there is a certain satisfaction about creaming one with the big dog only comparable to hitting a six in cricket!
Now although its very tempting to go for longest drive & try & smash the ball as far down the fairway as you can I'd much rather be able to keep a good score together.Though it can focus the mind on trying as much to keep the ball on the fairway to help maintain the score as much as go for Longest drive.
I'd rather get nearest the pin as in the past I've had longest drive before.
I've also won a society golf event too which for me carries way more kudos than either longest drive or Nearest the pin. Hole in ones count for a lot though.
Nearest pin. You can be 100yds longer than everyone else but 1 inch into the rough and the guy who topped his 9 wood that just made the fairway will still take the prize.
Saying that, I saw a guy win a car (and NP) after he topped a 4iron that bobbled 200yds and went in.....so neither, I'm keeping my cash bah humbug
Mate of mine won a longest drive with a 6 iron!
Nobody else had hit the fairway on a windy day and he was last to play. So he took out his 6 iron and made the fairway by about 6 feet. Won a trolley bag!!
Doesn't seem right but it doesn't say you have to use your driver...
I always like the look on some of the big name players at the club when I get up for longest drive, you can picture them thinking "who the hell is that skinny runt & how did he hit it further than me?"
I clicked longest drive, its ok being able to whack a ball far but if its not under control then its worthless. Longest drive and nearest the pin both share similar traits though, they both require pretty good timing and judgement of line applying wind and other factors into the shot.
