Nooooooooooooooooooooo !!!!

Sad news Richard. Unfortunately if the oil is hot when it comes out, it kills the grass immediately - heard this from one of our greenkeepers a while back. The next problem is that any oil on the green should be "washed" away to allow some new grass to grow.

I heard that soapy water was used to break the oil down

If you apply detergent straight away it helps but really there is little you can do.
The grass will die and it will take about 4 months to 'grow in'.
So long as the greens are kept short it is mainly cosmetic and will not really affect putting.
Looks awful though.
A smart greenkeeper would have noticed after a couple of runs, I assume it was the low paid numpty on the mower.

I love Blackmoor especially after finishing a foursomes competition there with a four via the clubhouse roof and the practice putting green!!

Played a singles knock out today, and the damage to the greens doesn't look as bad as first thought. The oil has now dried, so no nasty black spots, and has been treated with something, not sure what. The spots of oil are relatively small and spaced so no noticeable nasty tramlines. Short term I think the greens will putt normally, and hopefully the longer term damage will be minimal.
