Non Forumers opinion of us

I always thought that if you put your swing on here and asked for advise , you were looking for help with your faults, and didn't just want someone to massage your ego. My mistake, but then I have never bothered putting my swing on here because I can't stand criticism.:ears:

Sorry mate that wasn't what I was trying to say. When I put the video up it was alongside a previous one from several months before with the old teacher and was trying to show how different and better it looked/felt after just 25 minutes with the new guy. Most just looked at the two and picked on the faults. Yes they are still there but the quality of the strike in the new swing is immeasurably better than it has been in years.

I can take critiscism and don't normally need to put a video up for that Sorry if I gave you the wrong impression. It was annoying at the time that I was a positively glass full to the brim type of guy with how well it had gone and everyone esle seemed to miss the point. Still at least it is still going well and hpefully I'll take it into the first comp of 2012 on Sunday

Interesting question, one thing that I cannot abide is the new forum ranking names... eg: the 3 posts above this one; Piece is a challenge tour pro, Daymond is a head pro & Captainron is an assistant pro... it worries me to think outsiders read stuff and instantly believe it.

Same here James, thought it was just my pet hate.

I'm beginning to agree with JustOne re the ranking names. Strangers might think i have a well stocked shop to go with it! Lets do away with it. The number of posts will remain and we should all be required to state our handicap.

H/C 14.4

Whoa whoa whoa. I have been promised a raise if make Head Pro. I will earn an extra 16p an hour plus I won't have to restock the fridge with pop. Best of all I get my own parking space. Let's not be rash here...

Just to get it out of the way, as far as I can recall I have never, ever, commented on anyone's swing on this forum. I may have queried why someone had posted one asking for comment and then been upset because some forumers had commented, but as a high teens handicapper and occasional golfer I know my place.

Yes, I may be able to see something that may not seem quite right in someones swing and could point it out but I don't have the knowledge to suggest the right remedial action while taking into account all the possible variable that could have caused the problem in the first place.

We have had a few pros on here in the time I have been on the forum but the one who has kept with us and keeps on helping is dear old Bob. I'll one day get round to borrowing a camera and send him a video of my swing (???) and ask for his help, but from what I've seen he is one diamond geezer who's worth his weight in rocking horse do-da.

There are a few others who's opinion I respect regarding specific aspects of the game, swing, or equipment (you know who I mean lads) and they always make interesting reading.

There's an old saying : Those who can - do. Those who can't - teach. Those who can't do either - give advice.

I would never disrespect anyone on here for their well intended advice, but the bottom line for me is that, to fix a fault, you need to know the cause. There is no way that can be sorted in my opinion by visiting a forum and writing "I have developed a tendency to sh**k - what do I do?".

I have always understood there to be more than just one cause of that destructive little bugger of a shot - to fix it you need to know what's causing it in the first place.

Interesting post, personally I do read the opinion of folks on here seriously, there are 3 or 4 folk on here when it comes to swing and shaft advice (Bobmac, Justone, Ethan and Brendy) that I would pay particular attention to but having played myself for 20 yrs+ on and off to a reasonable level and having read a lot of instruction books and watched online video I feel fairly confident on why the ball does what it does or doesn't and where my own weaknesses lie. You can find video instruction and advice on any aspect of the game online or just see a reputable pro in person.

From my experience good golf advice on the course tends to come from players at 1 handicap or better. They don't get to that level by accident and often understand the mechanics well! You need to know why you are hitting it left or right and make the adjustments accordingly so some swing knowledge is essential.

I also think instruction can get over complicated, too much info and brain melts, keep it simple stupid - warm up properly, get your set up right and keep the backswing slowish.

I've posted videos of my swing a few times and find that it's pretty easy to separate the wheat from the chaff in terms of advice.

How ? you posted it i persume because there was something wrong with it that you werent sure of , so how do you know which advice is correct if you dont know whats wrong then ?

I very rarely comment on someone's swing posted on here, I'm not good enough to put someone's faults right and could cause more harm than good. That said, I understand that any advice given is well intentioned and I wouldn't criticise another for giving it.

You've only got to look at some of the quirky swings on the various tours to realise that a swing doesn't have to be a 'classic' swing to produce the goods.
