Makes it easier for Clarke I guess as, regardless of form, I'm sure people would have wanted him in based on pre-Gleneagles performances.

If he was fully fit would he make the team based on his experience? Maybe as a wildcard. Based on form alone would he make the team? Probably not. So an easy choice for Mr Clarke! Vice Capitan must be the role for him and he'd be bloody good at it. He can encourage and play a major role probably more then he could if he was playing.
Personally, I think we'll loose this one and before the forum comes down on me like a ton of bricks, of course I'd love Europe to win, but can't see it somehow.

Think this injury saves Clarke having to make a potentially awkward and tough decision! I think even as a wildcard, despite what he's done previously, Poulter wouldn't be a worthy pick for the team anymore.

In my humble opinion, no great loss. What he did in Medinah was nothing short of spectacular. I don't think he was that good at Gleneagles. Since then, nothing special. VC, I think he'd do a bloody good job.

In the past players like Seve , Faldo , Monty and Harrington have been picked on past RC form and proved to be the correct pick. Would never dismiss previous experience with the RC.
A VC role would be perfect for him right now and hopefully he can get himself back for 2018

Well, he hasn't won since '12 and has missed almost as many many cuts this year as he did last and it's only June...
He was lacklustre at Gleneagles and is a long way down the RC qualifying tables.
Unless he was going to show some real form I doubt he would have qualified nd I suspect that, come Captain's pick time, there will be better choices available..

If I were picking a team purely for matchplay, Poulter, for all his faults, would be one of the first on my list.
I'm not particularly keen on the bloke, but matchplay golf is all about passion, and he has it in bucket loads.
I wouldn't have put a fiver on Seve hitting a particular fairway, but put him in a match against a Yank and it was a different ball game.
He, like Faldo, was 2 up stood on the 1st tee purely on their ability to intimidate.

Depends who the US team is. Yes there is some baggage with the same old faces they have picked in the past. But I expect the new young guns like Spieth and Reed would be queuing up to play him on his current form.

Great news, he's past his best, no victory worldwide in 4 years.
