Isn't it about time we had Easter on a fixed date, all this 14th day after the vernal equinox stuff is so 3rd Century
Would make like so much easier if it was a fixed date like the last weekend in March.
Given that it's a Friday to Sunday thang
It's currently being discussed by the various Christian denominations. My sister is on the General Synod and I asked the same question half jokingly last time I saw her. Lots of branches of the church so it's not a quick process but it is being attempted so I'm told.
I requested early April but apparently as a non believer my views don't count 😞
I'm Sikh and love Easter. 4 days off in a row and chocolate eggs. Erm, Yes please.
It has already been fixed by law - in the UK at least. So it seems the church is behind the times again as usual...By law, Easter is defined as the Sunday after the second Saturday in April - the Easter Act 1928.
(Ok, so the Act has not been implemented yet, but it exists ...)
Having a religious holiday with a date not recognised by the religious bodies it relates to doesn't really stand up. The difficulty with setting the date, apparently, is that it is not just the C of E to decide, it is the Greek Orthodox Church, The People's Front of Judea, The Judean People's Front etc. Okay, I made up the last two but there are a number of churches that need to agree and each one takes an age to make any decision. One decides, go to the others, someone disagrees, the process starts again.
To me and you it seems easy, because it is frankly, but every denomination wants a voice and each one believes they are important. This is their chance to show it.

correct me if I'm wrong but we're a Christian Nation aren't we?
Just a minor example of how insane it is for religion to have such an influence. Stop calling it the easter holiday and declare an exact date for the spring weekend holiday.
Cast religion out of public life!
Sorry pal. It's called the festive season these days. That boat has sailed.I'm sorry but what's next, Christmas!
Genuine question - was the Easter Celebrations etc first and then they became public holidays ? Was it a religious holiday first ?
Whilst I agree on the sentiment about religion there is prob millions maybe more around the world who have the weekend as something more than just time off.
I imagine so but I think now we're entering the post-Christian era it's not a bad idea to disentangle our society from Christianity.
Will you make the same statement about Islam? Should that also be excluded from our Society.I imagine so but I think now we're entering the post-Christian era it's not a bad idea to disentangle our society from Christianity.
Easter comes from the old Anglo Saxon God ēastre who was a goddess of spring.Genuine question - was the Easter Celebrations etc first and then they became public holidays ? Was it a religious holiday first ?
