just decided after loads of lessons and practice, that its not my swing thats the problem its the driving range :DIve never hit the ball so badly as i have at the range lately, to be honest i dont think i can keep my concentration for more than 10 balls, think i switch off after so many and go back to my bad habits, so going to stick with short game practice from now on, with the odd lesson in between and see what happens, its annoying but i never hit the ball that bad on the course, but then im not hitting 30 7 irons one after the other, starting to come round to the "best way of practice is playing"

I definitely thing the range has its place but it is no substitute for hitting off grass to practice and better to gt out and play if you can. Sadly my clubs practice field as we speak has hundreds of coaches on and drunken racegoers staggering around so I won't be able to hit balls until Sunday.

I think you need to mix the practice up. I try to only hit 5-10 balls per club before changing. Some like to their course on the range and drive and then play the next shot dependant on how it would have equated on the course

I live at the back of a driving range but absolutely hate hitting off those horrible mats. Problem is the practise area at my course only has room for a pitching wedge. Still, there is no way I am stepping foot inside the range unless I am absolutely desperate!

thanks homer, good advice, but i think its a concentration thing, il play on a saturday and hit it ok, go up the range midweek and wished i hadn't bothered, apart from taking the driver up now and again, il think il stay away

starting to come round to the "best way of practice is playing"

If you believe that, go for it.... :D

The worst way to practice is to only play. Playing forces you into a corner where you are forced to "perform" rather than "think" about what you're doing. Not recommended.

(what do I know? :o)

exactly what im thinking, its nothing like playing on the course, and its not helping me, so thats it were finished, its taken loads of money off me over the years and always leaves me feeling p****d off after ive been up there, for some reason ive just thought of the ex wife, def a reason to stop going :D

good point, but the problem is the thinking bit, to much going on in my head up the range, but like i said il try it and see how the scores change ,hopefully for the better

Short game practice is the way forward! And getting out of those tricky situations! Luke Donald is a prime example!

thanks malc, playing the next 2 saturdays, so il be free after, think the 2nd should be ok, have you both still got your match on saturday ???

yes, the match is on, although luckily for me its a pairs comp, so no pressure on me to score, I can let sweatysock do that..lol

I have a charity comp on the 2nd, in aid of the air ambulance, although it would be good to go round as a threeball sometime, hopefully my game has improved a little since Luton.
