NFL

RGIII is out for 6-8 months with a torn ACL and LCL injury. He's basically having his knee re-constructed.

At an NFL UK fan event tonight in Leeds, very excited!!

Griffin, the same as Vick, Young, Newton and all the other so-called "athlete QBs" cannot survive playing the way they did in college. In the NCAA you can survive on athletic ability to make defenders miss. All the guys that made the tackles are now playing defense in the NFL and they are a lot bigger and stronger. Griffin's injury was unfortunate in that a player can blow an ACL/MCL at any time but it was an accident waiting to happen.

Defenses caught up with Newton in 2012 and the read-option attack was less and less effective just as the wildcat was quickly found out in 2009/2010. And as soon as you send your franchise QB out on the edge running the ball, he can be hit just like a RB.

No athlete QB has had more than one good season so far in the NFL and that was Michael Vick. In the long term, Andrew Luck will be a better pro QB than Griffin simply because he is the proto-typical pocket passer and all the great ones in NFL history have been.

Now I know the team I played in, way back in the day wouldn't have even been English conference standard by comparison, but I understand what you mean about the college QB's relying on athletic ability when it comes to match up against regular NFL defensive players.

Back in the day we were a local team who managed to get a game against a semi pro team from Fife, we trained for a few hours every Sunday, they trained more times in a week than we did all month. I used to play inside linebacker and on this one particular play I was homing in on the opposition QB, nothing else mattered, I didn't see the lineman who hit me, I don't remember hitting the ground, don't know how long I was out cold for but it was long enough for the play to go from their 10yd line to our endzone.

Men against boys and that what I think the athelete QB's are having to face up to.

Seattles chances depend on what they can do without Hauschka - they have no reserve field goal options which are likely to be crucial in the playoffs.

I will go for a Patriots v Greenbay superbowl

They've already signed another Kicker and placed Hauschka on Injured Reserve. I feel bad for the guy, because he's been money all season. Hopefully Longwell can step up and perform. He's a vet and has plenty of post-season experience, but hasn't played at all this season.

My bigger concern is the loss of Clemons rushing the passer. He's been solid all season. Now his drafted replacement is going to have to step up and earn his pay cheque. He played well on Sunday once Clemons went out of the game, so I'm confident he has the ability, but hopefully the production will be there. This team needs to be firing on all cylinders to topple the Falcons on Sunday.

Whilst I agree with you, the Read-Option offense is still effective if used in a well-balanced offense and not used as the main offense. Case in point - Russell Wilson and the Seahawks. Wilson is a pass first QB and only runs when necessary or on the odd designed plays, which is why his longevity will be much better than that of RGIII or Newton etc...

In the second half of this season, once the coaching staff took off the training wheels, allowed Wilson to play and installed some read-option plays, the Seahawks offense has flourished and I, for one, am VERY excited about the kid's future and the future of the Seahawks in general.

Win or lose in Atlanta Sunday, this has been one of the most enjoyable seasons as a Seahawks fan ever. It's even topping the 2005 Super Bowl season, as this team is (in my opinion) a better team and is certainly a more aggressive, punch you in the mouth, team. I love it.

You should listen to Bill Simmons' podcasts on ESPN. He tipped Seattle to win it all back in August and has the most worrying man crush on Russell "Hustle and Bustle" Wilson you can imagine. If the Hawks can win in Atlanta, then I think they can win it all on the kind of roll that the likes of Arizona, Green Bay and the Giants have gone on in recent years. Only the Cards of those teams did not wind up winning it and it took a miracle from the Steelers to stop it happening. Momentum is huge at this time of the season.

Longwell should be fit enough, he was training to do the Disney Marathon this weekend and is now playing in the NFL instead, I bet his kids arent too impressed missing out on Disney

If we win this weekend, I'm less worried about the prospect of Green Bay or San Fransisco. I'm not going to get my hopes up, and will be proud of the team wherever the truck stops, but I think Seattle has the team that *could* take it all the way.

I know how Simmons feels. My man crush on Wilson grows every week! Some of the stuff he's achieved this season is beyond incredible. It's a shame he won't win ROY because he deserves it, but doesn't get the exposure RG3 does due to the small market Seattle caters for. It's been an absolute delight to watch him grow from week to week.

I'm sure he'd rather have Superbowl MVP in his rookie season under his list of achievements though ;)

Oh I have no doubt he's got the fitness, my concern would be a rusty leg! Hopefully he'll only been needed for PATs and KOs and won't be relied up on for a dying seconds FG (at least not this week anyway!)

I hope the Chiefs get a decent quarterback in the draft, we are rubbish.

Err not this year. There are no decent QB prospects at all coming out and if you have to reach for USC's Matt Barkley, you are just drafting another version of Blaine Crappert in Jacksonville.

Geno Smith is another guy mentioned in the 1st round but West Virginia run a weird spread offense and have never had a QB start in the NFL. I think KC should draft the best guy available in the first round and look at someone like Mike Glenn or Nassib in the 2nd round.

I'm hoping they sell the farm for Matt Flynn so the Hawks have an abundance of draft picks for the next few years. Pete Carroll and John Schneider's drafting skills have proved second to none, so lord knows what they would do with extra picks!

I have a feeling Reid will bring Vick in to KC though. And I will LOL...a lot.

I too have a bad feeling about Vick coming to KC :(

Nearly!! Who called the time out as the first falcons field goal was snapped? Gave him a chance to amend angles

Damn! Hoped that Seattle could pull an iron out of the fire there. Atlanta finally win a playoff game. Oh well.

So who is it going to win the whole enchilada?
