Newcastle 3 Man U 0

Definitely not the Man U of old and losing a lot of games. Is Fergie past it. No chance. Not sure why they aren't doing so well but as a neutral (well Fulham are never going to be anywhere near the top 6) it doesn make it exciting to see other clubs coming into the mix. Advantage City again

2 fanatstic goals for Newcastle, Man Utd lacked a bit of cutting edge , nobody to pull the strings in midfield like Van Der Vaart at Spurs, Giggs is finished was 3 years ago but Fergie keeps picking him.

Good to see a club that hasn't spent a fortune doing well. Alan Pardew has done a good job, and selling Carrol for £35 million and getting Ba on a freebie seems like rather good business.;)

Some good stuff by Newcastle who always seemed to be well organised at the back. Some really woeful stuff by united. Need someone to run the midfield I'm afraid.

Good game for a neutral to watch though.

I'm not sure Giggs was finished three years ago, but certainly Ferguson should have identified a long term replacement in the middle of the park long before now. I agree 110% United lacked cutting edge, and it has been the case for some time.

I am a United member so get to see them a fair bit, and I can tell you without reservation that most United regulars I speak to are of the same view - we have the weakest midfield we have had for many years, especially in the middle. Carrick is one paced, Anderson has never done it for me, Scholes has obviously retired and was past his consistent best some time ago anyway. Tom Cleverley is a class act, but he still has a lot to learn at the highest level - certainly the club have enormous belief in him, so it is a huge shame he has picked up injuries in this, his first season as a potential regular.

As this season began I thought immediately that our early season results were flattering. We beat an awful Arsenal side in a game where we could quite easily have conceded four or five ourselves! But I said from day one this year that we would struggle in the Premier League against even half decent, fired up opposition, and that we would come unstuck in Europe.

That's not me being wise after the event - we simply are not good enough at Champions League level, primarily because of the weak central midfield. We saw the cracks against Barcelona in 2009, and had made no progress by May last year. If anything we had gone backwards. I was at the Benfica game when, with the exception of a good twenty minutes either side of half time we were, frankly, ordinary. With the exception of the 1-0 home defeat to Milan a few years ago it is the worst home performance I have seen first hand in Europe. And when the game came round in Basle I had already told my workmates to forget the knockout stages.

To say Ferguson is past it is plain ludicrous, but the midfield and both fullback positions need to be addressed. The issue we have is that the mere name of Manchester United is going to mean paying top dollar for the right players, but the club need to realise that the money has to be spent if we are to continue to be competitive.

I had my Sky upgraded to HD this afternoon (for free) and Fergie looks so much more sour in HD. It was worth every penny I didn't pay!

Will be when someone comes calling with a few million before the end of the month
And I'm sure Ashley won't knock it back

Top game and goals! I don't think even Man U fans could begrudge us this one…

This has to be one of the best photos I have ever seen in a while too…

One improvement that would have made it even better…

Ferdinand is past it, Vidic injured, no right back Man U are there for the taking at present. Add in the worst goalkeeper they have had in years and a weakened midfield they are in trouble in my opinion!

United missed the boat in the last transfer window if you ask me, when they let Wesley Sneijder slip through their fingers.

He would solve alot of MU's midfiled issues but not all. I think they'll get him in the January window, but the title may be gone by then.

Newcastle were excellent last night and 2 goals were of world class quality. Ba was awesome and I thought Ferdinand had to have a great game to stop him running amok.

Man Utd are fortunate Man City dropped 5 points over the Christmas/New Year period. As it stands 3 points is nothing, especially with 18 games to go. Man City must be kicking themselves for not being 8 clear.

No ways fergie past it, not a chance, he is in denial though. Whilst we have a lot of young potential in our squad most of it isn't the finished article, we did replace Giggs position on the wing, but the centre of midfield is the worst I've seen, carrick is a decent holding player but lacks a cutting edge, Anderson doesn't do it for me, cleverly will be great in the future but he's not a finished article and keeps getting injured, Giggs reinvented himself last season but fergie isn't recognising that we can't rely on him, we need a spark. I think the problem is players like veron being flops made fergie not wanna pay top dollar anymore, tbh I was surprised when we forked out 50 million on transfers last summer, I know fergie has his not buying players over 27 policy but snejder would be a real asset, trouble the taxes in England mean to just match his current wage of about 190000 we'd have to pay over 250000 a week which fergie isn't prepared to do, I think Jonny Evans isn't good enough and Ferdinand is past it so we need a cb, and we need a full back, i think selling o'shea was a mistake. I really wish we'd just bite the bullet and fork out the cash for a top player, but I know we won't. Fergie says he won't spend unless a top player becomes available, well clubs aren't gonna wanna sell their best players so chase one! Despite what I view as our worst side since fergie took over we're still only 3 points behind and by no means out of it, but to stay in it something has to change
