Don't the points equate to the value of the purse? World No 1 is about Money not golf, play the big events and do reasonably well and it will always put you ahead of the guy who wins the smaller events.
I've wondered whether they can bring in some form of 'handicap' system for the touring pros. They would all be off scratch, obviously, but for their performances they would either 'lose' shots or 'gain' them.
The tournaments would have to have some form of calibration as the Open surely carries more weight than the Czech Open.
Here's my example
Paul Casey is off 0. He wins the Czech Open so he loses 1 shot. He's off +1. Then, the next week, he wins the Open - he loses a further 2 shots so he's off +3.
Ross Fisher has a mare at the Czech Open and misses the cut - 0.1 back. He then makes the cut at the open but doesn't win - loses 0.1.
These aren't playing handicaps so have no bearing on the next tournament but, perhaps, would give the public more of an idea of who's performing?
I dare say more time and thought would have to be given to the system but I think it would work........
