Journeyman Pro
After collecting the new irons and hybrid yesterday evening, I hit the course at 8:00 a.m. this morning.
The MP53's have a shorter shaft than the MX200's they are replacing, and my pro has told me he wants me to grip down the shaft compared to how I normally grip, this took a little getting used to, causing a few thin(ish) contacts early in the round. There is much more feedback on mis-hits, but not as much forgiveness, no doubt owing to the smaller head and cavity, however shot shaping seems easier even for someone of my limited ability.
The MP53's feel like they have a different balance to the MX200's, but I'm not sure if that's down to the shaft or head or combination of both.
A couple more rounds and a range session or two to get used to the new shaft and hand position should be all thats required.
Also gave the CLK a couple of goes - had a bad lie from my drive on the par 5 12th, ball sat on the downslope of a fairway bunker in longish grass, ball above the feet and some doubt as to whether or not the ball was sat in a slight hollow. Yesterday I would have been taking a 5 or 6 iron at best, today the 20 deg hybrid was given it's head. A straight and powerful ball flight ended greenside, a chip and a putt for a birdie! - I'm converted!
Even the predicted rain held off until we were on the 18th green and made it into the clubhouse in time to take advantage of the pre 11:00 a.m. bacon butty and coffee deal!
