Would you purchase if it showed near perfect MOT history yet did not have a current MOT? (It's cheaper than ones I've been looking at too).

If its that good a deal, i would offer full asking price based on it passing the MOT. I may even offer to pay for the MOT myself if its that good a deal, if it passes you have a bargain, if it fails you walk away or renegotiate.

I'd be asking why it wasn't MOTd. Got to be a reason why it wasn't put through as usual. Has it been SORN'd and off road for a while ?

Wouldn't touch it. My son bought a car under similar circumstances about 15 years back. Turned out to be a Cat C write off that had been put back together from two different cars. He got it MOT'd and back on the road but it was almost worthless and impossible resell.

If it's an everyday car 99 times out of 100 it doesn't have an MOT because it needs a big job done on it, unfortunately service history, previous MOT's mileage etc have very little to do with the cars current condition.
On the flip side there can be many legitimate reasons why it doesn't have MOT. Owner Works away from home, has a second car etc
Why don't you just ask him and see what his answer is?

how many old mot`s? 26k on the clock is very low even for a 3 yr old car that is due its first mot.
get an AA inspection done and also a hpi check .a few quid well spent.

Dealers can't sell without an MOT.

Private sale beware. HPI data comes from Dealers and can contain errors. Once had a ' cleared' check: said recent mileage was less than 6 months earlier and no damage but it had been pranged badly. This was a £40grand motor from a German prestige franchise!

MOT only valid at time of test. Wheels etc can easily be taken off after testing.
