Hi everyone

I had my 1st golf lesson back in January and played my 1st round at the weekend scoring an impressive 152!!

Highlights include,

Carding not only a 14 but also a 13 and a couple of 12’s
Losing 6 balls
5 putting the 9th
Hitting 1 green in regulation

Target for 2010 break 110.

To be honest, only losing 6 balls in 152 isn't that bad - stick around here and you'll find that some lose that many while scoring 100!
Welcome

not too bothered about the lost balls, although that is alot of wasted shots!

- its topping the ball every other shot and pushing it right when I'm not topping it that I need to work on.

Hi and welcome.

The main thing is did you enjoy it? my father encouraged me to play from the time I first caddied for him over 45 years ago, saying it was the best game in the world.

Unfortunately I was very much into football both playing, watching and helping to run a Non league football club and only played between 5 and 15 times a year. I then joined my first golf club last March and have enjoyed every minute of it, wishing I had done it years earlier, it is the best game the world.

My father played until he was 86 and I plan to do the same if not better.

So look forward, try to learn and practice as much as time will allow. You will get plenty of advise from some very helpful people on this forum, take note to what apertains to you and enjoy, and keep us up to date as to when you brake 150, 140, 130 and 120.

Good luck

Yeah loved playing and I'm hooked on learning more about the game and improving. I'd practice all day if I didnt have to go to work

3 basic rules of golf:

1) keep your head down
2) keep your goddamn head down
3) keep your *&$£&!# head down :D
Worst bit of advice in golf trying to keep your head down will get your chin too close to your chest no room for your shoulders to turn and your head will rise during the swing.
What Keefg should be telling you is eye on the ball but keep your chin up to allow room for the shoulders.

Mike....it was meant as a joke, have you never seen the Leslie Nielsen spoof "Bad Golf Made Easier" :D

Welcome.
Remember your first round - it'll be your inspiration.
Concentrate on getting a good, repeatable swing - don't worry about the numbers. Get yourself a reliable swing and the numbers will look after themselves.

Enjoy. :)

Make sure you've got a good grip and a good set-up position (especially the aim).
The majority of faults in golf come from one or both of those things

Welcome and while I can't guarantee that this forum can make you play better golf, if you hang around and listen to alot of the good practical advice given it can only help.

1 green in regulation. Quality!

Forget the 5 putts, or losing 6 balls, or the 15,14,13 or 12.

it was only a short par3 at around 125yds. I hit my 9i well enough (for me) but unfortunately I left the 20ft birdie putt 8ft short. then missed the 8ft par putt.

i'll get it next time...

For me it is "Do not look to admire your shot before you have actually hit it."
