First post rules usually state an obligatory hello so - hello!

I am in the process of moving from the south of England up to Edinburgh with work and, as all my friends are down here I’m going to have a lack of people to play golf with up in Scotland. It would be great to talk to a few of the Scots in here, and maybe set up a round or two.

I’m a beginner player - so a bit of patience may be needed as well!

Welcome mate there is a few members in the Edinburgh area you should have no issues on finding playing partners, are you thinking of joining a club while your in scotland, I think that would be your best bet for more regular pp

That would be the idea. Although the issue is I’m not sure how long I’ll be up in Edinburgh. The contract is, technically, forever, but you never actually know. I’d kind of like a little help in finding the right course with people around my age (30) who play relatively regularly.

Iv saw some courses have a flexible membership that might be an option until your more settled, can't help with playing partners, I guess its just a matter of getting out there and meeting people, if your ever up Glasgow ill get you a round on mine, plus there should be some meets when the season starts back up next year

I’ll have a look around for courses. I looked at Archerfield but they only do membership on debenture which is a shame.
I’ll let you know if I’m ever over Glasgow way though mate - I look forward to it!

What I'd do is check google see whats in your area and phone around find out what there offers are and membership demographic.
Pay and play a couple to and see how you find them, I'm sure some members in that area will give you advice on good courses good luck mate

might be worth PM ing DBC whos one of the Mods he is involved Edinburgh Leisure so might be able to recommend courses in Edinburgh.

Plus theres at least 3 guys who are members at Dunbar

Cheers guys - much appreciated.

I’ll will catch up when I’m in Edinburgh (as of Jan) and come out for a few rounds about Scotland.

Hi there, Edinburgh is a good base, a fair number of members clubs in the City and with the East Lothian coast running Eastward from Edinburgh, there are numerous Links courses on offer. Edinburgh is still fortunate in that is still has some municipal courses, low cost and usually a club attached. there are also a good number of members clubs with a wide range of fees. Still a lot of Joining Fees on the go though. There is a reasonable Proprietary course at Kings Acre, a large parkland setup with a club attached. Drop me a PM when you get up here and I'll see if I can be of help.

Superstar! Thank you - I’ll check out Kings Acre in the meantime. Ive looked at Archerfield but, until I know what’s happening with work in the long term, I don’t want to commit to a debenture arrangement.

I play at castle park near Gifford which is a great course, Craig who runs it is good at working membership around different people's needs-if you want a game to check the place out just give me a shout.
