Anyone heard the new single? Christ, talk about plodding, generic and land fill brit pop from the mid 90s . It sounds like something Liam Gallagher would reject as being too unadventurous. Contrast that with the latest work from Radiohead who are showing what can be done in rock with a bit of invention and imagination.

Invention and Imagination! You've got to be joking, It's the same moribund dross they've been churning out for years.

If your into it/them then Fair enough, but it's certainly nothing new.

Agreed.. Radiohead's recent(ish) stuff appears to be aimed at people who want to be seen listening to Music, rather than people who want to listen to Music... Nothing new or inventive about writing a song, then removing the melody and sticking a solemn, nonsensical video onto it... :D

Oh, and The Roses new single isn't particularly good. It has none of the imagination of Brown's solo stuff. I get the feeling Squire wrote it as it sounds more like something he would do..

Aah but the melodies are there, you just need to listen to the song a few times for them to present itself, they are hidden in the occasional burst of strings or piano. You have to pay attention, they make you immerse yourselves in the songs to get the most out of them. It's like cosmic man. Listening to music is so 1990s ;)

Totally agree, Brown's solo stuff was fantastic. Couple of great solo albums.

Radiohead - not for me unfortunately, never been able to get in to it.

My lad who has rediscovered the stone roses has been bending my ear with stone roses rubbish for the last Lord knows how long. He was mega excited about them bringing out this single. Anyway he down loaded it yesterday. Told me he had played it a few times and was initially not blown away. He said it sounds like the roses are pushing for the UK to stay in Europe.😳
Just listened to it and it's not bad, can see it being well recieved on there tour and could be a good festival song.

Thery were never going to hit the earth shattering heights of the debut album , fools gold and one love. They were truly a soundtrack to a generation. Personally i quite like the new offering , it's a real grower for me and is true to their roots. Agreed it's not like Brown's solo stuff but should it be ???

New single is ok but no more than that, but lets face it all good bands make their best music in albums one and two when they're young and hungry, after that the creativity and desire is spent. If they have got an albums worth of new material then it needs to be better than this offering. I would personally be happy to listen to just Reni drum without the others and most people would be happy to just listen to the old classic songs live. Must be marketing a tour soon or are broke, they're middle aged men so would probably rather be doing something else, you cant keep an edge like they had 25+ years ago, they need to be careful not to trash or parody the 'aura' and 'cool' they still have from their heyday.

The Seahorses used to be a poor mans Stone Roses tribute band. The Stone Roses now seem to be a poor mans Seahorses tribute band.

They set the bar pretty high with their first album, so it seems harsh to be too critical. I like the song, it's got a good feel to it, but for me it's s bit too much like oasis (love oasis).

As for radiohead, love their earlier stuff off the bends and ok computer, but apart from the odd song off their next few albums, they went a bit too quirky for me. Saying that, I saw them live about 8 years ago and they're up there with the best I've seen.

A vaguely related story...

I got into Radiohead just after OK Computer was released. I absolutely loved (still do) The Bends and listened to it practically 24/7 for ages, so when it was announced a new album was due, for the first time ever, I preordered Kid A.

I was like a kid waiting for Christmas until it came in. I fetched it the day it arrived in at HMV and listened to it that night.

Biggest letdown ever.

The next day I rang HMV and asked if I could return it even though it had been opened.

"Why do you want to return it?" the guy on the phone said.

My answer... "Because it's rubbish"

"Fair enough" he said. I guess he wasn't impressed either.

I got my money back.

Haha. Similar here, without having the nerve to ask for a refund!

The new single is an improvement. Decent Drum and guitar work, and much better by Brown. Gonna enjoy Friday a lot.

Yes, if you are into Jesus Jones 12 inch remixes or something the Happy Mondays in even their most crack addicted phase would rightly leave on the cutting room floor then it's not bad. Still, if you are off to see them in concert then the last 2 singles will provide an idela opportunity to go to the bog.;)
