After having browsed around the forum for a while, and gleaning opinions, I decided it was time to get a new set of sticks. So have been out today to get custom fitted with a set of new Mizzys. And am now the proud owner of (or will be when they get delivered) of....fanfare... Taylormade r7 TP irons!

So how does that happen then? I was sure Mizzys were going to be it. I'd fairly quickly discounted Callaways and Titleist. Toyed with the G10s for a bit, but was absolutely convinced the the MX25s were going to be the ones. But after swotting ball after ball, draw after draw, with the r7s, one sort of just fell in love....

Damn; ain't spending money good? If only sex were this much fun....

Good choice. I love my R7's. Out of interest why did you discount Callaway and the G10's

Difficult to say quite why really. The Callaways just felt a bit awkward in the hand and I didn't seem to be able to swing them back smoothly. Odd I know, as they are, like all clubs, just a lump of metal on a stick (if you know what I mean). The G10s I could swing ok, was getting reasonable strikes with them but in the end, couldn't quite get to grips with what I was looking at at address. The Mizzys came damn close, but I think me & the r7s are made for each other

Am I right in thinking there is a new model of this iron out or due shortly?

New burner irons are now on the market but I don’t think they have the same look or feel as my R7s. Had mine for just over a year now and I’m thinking of getting a new set while I can get some decent money for the set I’ve got. Besides I’ve hit a lot of balls with this set and when they’re new the ball spins much better.

There are two sets of burner irons on the market. The Burner XD look terrible but i thought the tour burner irons look quite good. Think they sit somewhere in between the standard R7's and the R7tp. Was quite tempted with them myself until i saw the look on the wifes face

The R7 irons are probably in the top 5 most desired irons, they are awesome to look at and play with, did you get the draw version?

Nope - just the ..... err.... what do you call the ordinary "non-draw" versions? Joey - my pro - who was helping me with the fitting of my "mizzys" and who's try to teach me to to draw the ball, was quite impressed with my efforts with the r7's. And has always been adamant I don't need "draw" clubs. (The blighter is now eying my r5 driver which is a draw club....)

B*stards, b*stards, b*stards...........

Just been phoned by the shop today to be told that Taylormade have no more r7's and are not making any more. B*stards. The dream is over before it starts and I have to start looking again. B*astards.

Sorry about the language, but I'm a bit miffed....

Typical TM i'm afraid.

"Progress" means that they have something new and better and now replace their line every year.

Or it may just be the R7's in a different wrapper but with £75 added to the price.

Exactly!!!!!

Think these will be the burner tour irons. You may want to look at them. Think you will be more tempted to stay away from TM altogether though

Somewhere will have the R7s surely if you really are desperate for them. It may be harder to find the components in your exact specification but seeing as they are still relatively new I should think there will be stock of them somewhere. If you do know your exact specs as well you could get some shipped in from America or somewhere. It's a shame though, why taylormade would stop producing a line of clubs that is about 2 years old I don't know- oh wait yes I do, to make money! It's wrong but the way things are now.

Thanks folks.

I'm still very tempted by the r7s - but do rather have an inclination to tell Taylormade to stick their clubs where the sun don't shine. (Tried the Burners and wasn't keen). On other hand, it would be cutting off my nose to spite my face as it were.

But the question is.... where do unsold golf clubs "live". My regular supplier doesn't have any r7s (in any of their chain) nor do Taylormade themselves. But I can't believe there's none available anywhere.

So where are all the heads? Are they already distributed to retailers fitted to shafts as standard clubs. Or are heads distributed to retailers to await fitting as standard or customised? (Or is customisation simply that the retailer asks the manufacturer to send X club fitted to Y shaft in so-and-so configuration?)

(But then, at start of the thread, I did say I was expecting to get mizzies, so perhaps...)
