I would welcome some feed back on any one playing these irons as I am looking to upgrade my set.

I am a 18 Handicapper and play 3 ~ 4 times per week, I currently have a set of R7 which are Ok but having hit a few new irons they felt better than the irons I am playing with.

So I have had a fitting and compared the Callaway Apex and TM TP CB, both with the Stock Reg shafts during this I was found to be be Std Length and Lie for both that makes things easier.

I hit both on Trackman and there was very little to chose between the two, both felt nice, distance was similar and found both very similar when I miss hit them out of the Heel or Toe, maybe the CBs a little more forgiving. I also found both similar when I tried to draw and fad the ball

I have checked the lofts of each set I am looking at and they seem very similar so I am quite sure I am comparing like for like

I am having anther fitting where I hope to be able to compare the Apex, CBs, AP2s and SLDRs are there any other clubs, that are similar, that I should try?

I would welcome the views of people who are using these clubs of how they have found them, are they too much of a Players club for 18 Handicapper?

The other question in my mind is are the Apex worth the addition £150 ~ £200?

Thanks

Do they have to be the latest model? recent thread reminded me the Rocketbladze tour irons are £300 ish!

Also, have you tried the TM TP MC? bit sleeker than the CB, nicer to look at in my opinion. But loads of other brands you could look at, The Benross Hot speed irons are fantastic and way cheaper than any of the "big brands", then you have the Ping G30, i25, Mizuno (not up to speed on their ranges, but they are a big fav here!)

It can be difficult for anyone advising you which irons to buy as they have no ideas how you swing the club. Are you hitting your irons out if the centre of the club the majority of the time? If not then you may be better investing in clubs which have a bit of forgiveness on strikes that aren't right out of the centre of the club.

I was surprised to find recently that a guy I know who plays off 5 couldn't get on with a set of custom fitted Titleist AP2s so gas ordered a set of easier to hit Ping irons. There's another who went through a period of playing good golf and carding good scores so ordered a set of brand new muscle backs and had found that he only gets true distance when the strike is fully centred, which he isn't doing as consistently now.

As others will have said, go and try the clubs and see which ones you like but bear in mind how the clubs will be if your game goes off the boil. Often the game improvement clubs will help you should your swing go off a bit without suffering significant performance effects.
