New Season Strategies.......

Strange this talk of 'shots' on particular Holes etc, - I can honestly say that i NEVER stand on a tee and think 'I have a shot here', and compensate for it etc.
I know I 'can' Par all 18, so I play each hole to do exactly that, and if things go wrong off the Tee, then its damage limitation etc.

I think to play any hole with the mindset that 'Bogey is ok' isnt for me, - I'd much rather look back at the round and the shots that 'got away' rather than 'where I used them', if that makes sense ?

I'm a 10 Handicap, which merely means that I should be around 10 over par - and where I lost them is irrelevant really. Stroke Indexes are more for match situations ?

Cut the Doubles this year, and get more Drives away well, and I feel I can get back down to 9/8.
Sign's are good for my new 910D3 so far, performed really well, so high hopes for summer

Spot on Macster, At no time do I ever think, I can play safe here and use my shot. I go out every week to shoot the lowest score my giddy swing will allow.

You raise interesting points Gary. Im starting to think it comes down to what standard of golfer you are in terms of handicap.
I'm off 8 so I like to think I can hit a long iron well enough to get the distance fairly accurate (within 10 yards) it's just the accuracy left and right of the green that would be a problem as longer irons are harder to control.
For a higher handicapper I'd normally recommend the safer option but for a lower handicapper I think it's worth taking the shots on when normally the quality of the strike is there it's just the left to right accuracy that is the one to watch.

Interesting to see how me and you both differ slightly on the approach to these scenarios when were both low handicappers (I think you are anyway) ;)

There is a coincidence with the OP. My in-nine stats are ALWAYS noticibly worse. Maybe its a lapse in concentration or something. I am no more tired at the end than I am at the start so its not that.

I am not a heavy hitter, so its the short game I have to really work hard at to catch up.

What I do during the week's lunch hour is take a club with me to work and then practice on whatever i think I need most work on. There is a short cut field at the back of where I work. You can't practice putting but I can do everything else. :)
