Afternoon all

While some of the forum members were playing at Gainsborough after meeting Lee Westwood a few weeks back the guys at Ping closed down the fitting centre so Lee and Golf Monthly could try out some brand new offerings.

We had a great few hours trying the new Anser range and you can read all about the new products and see our video reviews below. From a personal point of view the Anser woods fill the gap between i20 and G20 perfectly. You have the forgiveness of g20 with the looks of i20. The shaft options in the driver are really impressive and they come at no extra cost. It's worth noting that these are real deal shafts and not 'made for Ping' offerings.

Take a look and it would be interesting to get your initial reactions.

I saw this via twitter today, the woods are very tempting especially the non-made for shafts

I like the top view of the anser driver, and the bottom is nice too, but the face looks very rounded on the bottom, I wonder how it sits on the floor for lining up (something I love about the RBZ is the flat bottom sit perfect on the floor and lines up great).

Nice selection of shafts too, and will be after a demo of that to see what each shaft feels like.

Sounds a bit weird, but what is the headcover like

I like it and am very happy to see shaft options with no upcharge, even better that they are real. I think its good looking and am impressed that they have fitted there adjustment system in without it showing at all. However... what is the point of adding an adjustment system that only does loft and that only has a range of 0.5* either way?

Every other large manufacture has the march on this technology, if your going to through your hat into the ring you need to be doing at least as much as everyone else. I also think its overpriced. As I say though, a good looking bit of kit.

I think Ping are doing some very good stuff these days and they've got to be worth a look. I'm still looking at the RBZ as my preferred first choice but if I haven't made the decision by the time the Anser come out then I'll be trying them

Homer - they have always done some good stuff, but IMO its a bit disappointing. They were the pioneers of so much that we use today. Most notably the anser style putter and oversize woods. Copying competitors when historically, their competitors have copied them is a shame IMO. :mmm:

BTW - Dave Fanning was the chap who very kindly arranged for my Eye 2's to be changed in about 95 due to box grooves A good chap indeed.

I agree. The anser putter was a breakthrough and has become iconic. Ping Eye was revolutionary but I thought they did get lost on the wood front until the G10 and onwards. The adjustable Anser will be a step up again

Well, if you need an amateur to try it out and see how it goes...I am quite happy to road-test it....!

RRP at £355. Could any club really be so good as to be worth that? When are we going to start seeing £400 drivers - can that really be justified for an average amateur golfer?

You could quite easily spend that on a fitted Callaway driver already, in fact lots of drivers with a "real" shaft in will set you back that much. I do agree though, for an off the shelf fitted driver its too much.

My thoughts exactly.

I think the thing with adjustment is that Ping believe in fitting so adding too much adjustability would probably be seen as a bad thing in their eyes. Adjusting the loft however could allow a player to make compensation for ball flight depending on weather conditions.

I quite like the looks but am confused by the naming. Aren't the Anser irons and wedges the butter knife blades??? Yet the Driver is pitched between the i20 and G20???

NB Paul small typo on the linked page indicating that the Anser is available in a 2 degree lofted version!!!!!

Nope, Anser irons are cavity backed, the difference is they are forged not cast. Its there premium range rather than there better player range. S56 is there better player iron.

I saw 2 or 3 used in anger today by some Ping sponsered players at Stoke by Nayland, certainly seemed to be working for them but I am not too keen on the sound, a little tinny for my liking
